Yes. D24 was waitlisted and prepared solid LOCI and got into UCLA last year.
I have a recent UCLA graduate who says that transferring to engineering is relatively easy. So YMMV.

I have a kid at UCLA. You can absolutely transfer to engineering. If your current major has a lot of overlap in premajor classes with an engineering major (say both require math, physics, chem….), and you complete these classes and get good grades, your petition to transfer to engineering will be successful. What’s difficult is to be a history major, take classes in humanities and then decide as a junior you want to be an engineer. That’s a no go.
Can anyone advise about the waitlist process? I’m worried about housing which isn’t guaranteed if you apply after May 1…. Anyone have experience with this?
Housing at UCLA is guaranteed for 4 years. My daughter is currently a freshman and my son just got accepted. I’m not sure if there’s a cutoff like May 1 to guarantee housing but it seems that if they are accepted, they should be able to get housing.
15% is a lot of applicants! Thanks for the info
You’ll be fine. My daughter got off the waitlist on June 1st last year. Ended up in her first choice dorm.
Disappointing…

Kid was waitlisted, just like his big sis last year. Luckily, neither had their hearts set on UCLA and had other fantastic UC options. He will probably not elect to stay on the waitlist.
Accepted! 4.0/4.8. In-state. Pre-bio major.
Ecstatic as both parents are Bruins!!
Have MIT why bother UCLA? Congrats!
Yes, we are thrilled, but it would be nice to have a strong cheaper option… but still very lucky
Yes. It is possible. My child is going through right now. You need to maintain 3.5GPA in engineering workload for two quarters. I know another student who did it last year.
nothing good unfortunately, maybe will check later but no id, i applied eecs to berkeley
No from my side. Nothing to even check portal.
Accepted OOS and shocked! 3.93 UW GPA / 4.66 W GPA / 4.07 UC Capped GPA. Applied as Pre-Business Economics. Yay
You have great choices. I hope you like your many other offers. All the best.
For those who know about L.A., how is the vibe at UCLA now? In the 80s when I was an undergraduate in the US, I knew a lot of friends there who drove nice cars and were very trendy. (Sorry, I didn’t mean to provoke anyone. I studied in upstate NY.) Can we find a wide range of students in UCLA, from all walks of life, for example, some may be more down to earth too?
Hopefully there will be another wave or two.
All the best!
