but in terms of difficulty, it’s not TOO bad.

csm51a - totally depends on your professor for how much work you get. material is pretty important and you want to get the foundations down. some people understand it quickly and others slowly.

ee1 - a lot of material, but isn’t too hard given you have the time to study for it.

math33b - probably the easiest one out of the 30 series. extremely high curve.

cs35l - pretty hard in the beginning for people who don’t have any experience with linux. but it gots a lot easier after week 3-4.

however, if you substitute math61 for ee1, you’ll be more relaxed and have a more “doable” quarter.

I am also trying to plan out my schedule for winter quarter. I have
ce 102a
cs 31
physics 4bl

this is only 10 units, which is under the minimum. however, i am terrified of cs 31 which is why im thinking about these classes for the winter. is there any way that i can be allowed to take only 10 units? as of know, i have junior standing, so i do have enough units to compensate

You may take 10 units, I believe. You just need to add another class, and drop it after probably the 4th or 5th week, when they check your full time eligibility.

I’m not sure when everything is checked (may affect your scholarships, grants, etc.) and I’m not sure if you need to be a full time student to live in the dorms (if you will be).

CS 31 isn’t close to as bad anymore, especially since you’re taking it in the winter and not fall.

CHE 100 opened up from what I’ve been told. Around 50% or more will drop, so don’t worry if you don’t get a space.

CHE 109 is only hard if you don’t know how to use MATLAB. Kind of stupid since they make ChemEs now take CS31 (C++) compared to back then MAE 20 / CEE 15 (MATLAB).

Christphodes teaches 109 (numerical analysis)/107 (process control) which are considered the easier material classes, just applied math.

what CS classes are the ones that go into depth about the process of creating a piece of software from like start to finish? (I guess software engineering)

Or classes that talk about the design process and how to create a standalone program that is usable by others out of it, instead of just the basic code and console-run programs done in 31/32/33

Sorry for my absence, I’ve been settling into my new apartment and working 60-hour weeks.

That’s CS 130: Software Engineering. The course covers the software development cycle, design patterns, programming methodologies, and principles of software as a product and a service. It’s also a practicum where you spend the quarter working in teams on a standalone software application, either from an industry sponsor or from an open-source project.

I’m looking for a few responses to this question - anything would help me out.

If you took Engineering 183 or 185…
Which one did you take?
What did you like about it?
What did you dislike about it? What would you change to make it better? (Please don’t say “less writing” as now it fulfills the Writing II requirement so that can’t change.)
How were the TAs in your section? What did you like/dislike about them?

Engr. 183

I liked that once you were done with your portion of the group research paper, you were practically done with the whole class.

I disliked the time, 8:00AM. It really wasn’t too bad. The papers were an easy ‘A’ as long as you supported your claims.

My TA was nice and an easy grader. I think they are all easy graders.

Just look on bruinwalk.com for more reviews of the class.

[ol][]Engineering 183
[]Easy A
[]The 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM time slot, and the textbook, which was barely used in the course.
[]The TA didn’t do anything, besides tracking the progress of our groups’ final reports.
[/ol]

1) 183
2) one of the easiest classes I’ve taken
3) always 8am, and they take attendance
and regarding the amount of writing, I think this class had less writing than my writing II class (I took it before at community college) and my eng comp 3 class
4) My TA was pretty awesome. easy grader and very chill. but he suggested that we take the 185 class (even though we were already in the 183 class). I think he said it had to do with systems engineering? but I don’t know anyone who’s taken engr 185 so I don’t know.

the professor who teaches engr185 seemed so boring…when he came to talk about systems engineering in our cs101 seminar. after the presentation, i still had no idea what systems engineering was.

I had a question about cs31 and cs32. In which of these courses is Friends, Overloaded Operators, and Arrays in Classes first covered? I’m a transfer student who’ll be attending the engineering school in the fall and I need to know this to update my study shedule.
