Have you guys tried ZS Associates? (or maybe put it on your list of firms to add for the future)

We will definitely add them to the list of companies to contact next year then :)

I have gotten a C in one of my Engineering courses. My counselor told me that i can only retake a course that i have received a C- or less. Is there a way i can try to retake that class??? Is it ok to ask a professor to be given a C- (an lesser grade) so i can retake the course, is that possible? If not, are there other ways i can try to retake the course? petition?

You cannot petition to retake the course - if you try, it will be denied.

You can ask the professor to lower your grade but there is no guarantee they will do that. Is there a reason why you want to retake the class? If it’s because it’s your only C and lowers your GPA, it probably isn’t worth it - one C doesn’t affect you too much. I wouldn’t worry about it. Brush it off and just promise yourself you’ll better this quarter.

try talking to professors about lowering your grade. I have had friends who tried this and succeeded.

Hello everyone,

I’m currently taking Jacobsen for EE 103 and the first homework isn’t to bad. However, I’ve heard bad things about this guy. If anybody here has taken this course with him before, how was the midterm and final? How was the curving? I’m nervous.

what would anyone rather take over the summer, MAE 102 and 182a or 102 and 105a?

rebcutis: Jacobsen is tough. Good Luck.

All three courses are possible for you to do well in. I would recommend 102 and 105A.

182A introduces many useful mathematical concepts which you will use again in 107, 171A, EE 100, and any signals/controls analysis class you take. Even some people who took 10 weeks of 182A didn’t fully understand the following terms (and why they are useful) after the course: Laplace transform, Fourier Transform, impulse and frequency response, step, ramp input. You will see them again in future courses. Learning them well in 182A will be a good idea. This is the most difficult of the three courses, but not extremely difficult. (Difficulty: 8/10)

105A is also doable in the summer. If you take 133A in the future, try not to forget the basics. (Difficulty: 7/10)

Alas 102 will be taught by Chatterjee, so expect a high mark in that class. I have not used much of the theory taught in the class. You can take it in the summer. (Difficulty: 6/10)

I’ve been thinking about getting a math minor… I’m currently CSE and was wondering if any classes required for a math minor overlap with any CSE classes. If not, how many classes would I need to take to obtain a math minor?

MadeInChina:

Yeah, 32A, 33A, and 33B overlap … so basically any engineering student could add 5 courses (106-199) to get the math minor.

Sounds like a pretty good deal … but I think some upper div math courses are harder than people think they are. Attainable in 1-2 quarters.

Hey guys, for anyone who took CS 35L before,

I thought nothing could be worse than CS 33… I mean, CS 33 was hard, but I never hated it. but I’m really really passionately hating CS 35L class right now because every week is so frustrating T_T… and I was wondering: Is it normal to not finish the lab assignment (not including HW) during the 2-hr class period?

This is what my TA does: He goes around to help people individually but I noticed that he ends up answering the SAME question like 5 times… Due to the ineffiency of such method, most people in our class end up taking the lab assignment home and STRUGGLE to finish it. And then, I find the homework assignment to be challenging too… Last week, I spend sooo much time on HW2 with shell scripting, becasue the TA didn’t cover any relevant material in class.

When HW is difficult, is it really too much to ask to finish the Lab assignment in the Lab and homework at home???

Please tell me about your CS 35L experience, I always feel like ripping my hair off…

Yes, it’s normal, but know that the assignments get easier towards the end.
I had a bit of experience with simple Linux commands, so in that way I was somewhat ahead. My TA was excellent and really helped everyone get as much of the lab done as possible. Obviously, there were times when I wasn’t able to finish the entire lab by the end and it could get frustrating, but by the end of the class, 35L didn’t really take up much of my time. Don’t let the first couple assignments get you down.

I thought CS35L was harder than CS33 >_<

well until after the hawaiian dictionary assignment…then it got a lot easier and i never finished a lab in the given lab period.

I dunno, I thought cs 35l was a joke compared to CS 33.

All the CS 35L projects are tiny compared to the 33 projects and they took like a couple hours tops. Since you get two lab periods to work on a single lab, during my quarter we usually finished doing the lab in the lab classes and then just worked on homework outside of the class.

The homeworks were also pretty small in comparison to the CS 33 projects. For the python/shell scripting all you have to do is google for some tutorials and you should be fine.

Uhm, question. What courses do Electrical Engineers usually take in their summer going into sophomore year ?

And anyone got a tips for ZOCCHI physics 1A first midterm ?

thanks

would math 132 overlap?

Take whatever is available or just go to a community college to take some GEs. Another idea would be to take CS 31/32 at a CSU so that you won’t have to take it at UCLA. Assuming you’re not doing the computer engineering option or the CS breadth option.

see y’all at EWI tonight :]

Hey everyone. I applied to UCLA under the school of Letters and Sciences, however I am become increasingly interested in computer science. I was wondering if anyone knew how possible it is to tranfer from Letters and Sciences into the Engineering School and when this could be done (would I have to way 2 years for example). Also if anyone knows if a student in Letters and Sciences could double major in Computer Science that would be great. Thank You.
