Also do you think I will be able to get out of chem20A if I got a 4 on my AP Chem exam? The book says I can petition to get out of it. Would I still have to take the Chem 20 lab class?

From what I’ve heard and read on this thread, it is the most annoying and useless class you will take as an EE major. I’ve also been told to avoid Jacobsen.

Don’t take it. You can just learn what you need later on.

Hey flopsy! Could u tell me if have any shot of getting an admit into M.S program in Civil? I have a 1520 GRE score and 2.75 GPA for UCLA. Also have excellent proj + intern record.

Hey Flopsy! Could u tell me if i have a shot at getting an Admit in UCLA? I have a 1520 GRE score + 2.75 GPA for masters. Wanna do M.S in Civil… Did undergrad in Bits-Pilani, India. Thanks!
Kate.

Hi Swaps (I’m guessing your real name’s Swapnil- and no- my name’s not Tuna), first of all- you DO realize that these are undergrad forums. Most of us here are high-schoolers/high-school-grads/college-students and don’t really know much about M.S. programmes. If you didn’t realize this, well- happy realization! i wouldn’t really know but that 2.75 looks kinda bad. (and i thought BITS Pilani worked on the 10 GPA scale). yeah… so we can’t really help much around here!! :)

GrassBandit: LOL!! you redefine bluntness! :)

It’s better that SwapsKate gets an honest answer rather than false hope. IMHO SwapsKate needs to get a much higher GRE score, great letters of recommendation, and some kind of work experience related to civil engineering to compensate for the low GPA. Swaps_Kate would have a much easier time getting into a CSU because most of their MS programs have a minimum 2.5 GPA requirement.

A 1520 is quite impressive, though GRE scores aren’t of high consideration for admissions. If only your GPA was 100 basis points higher, you would be competitive for admission at MIT, CIT, Stanford.

How does this schedule look for an incoming freshman?

Physics 1A
Chem 20A
CS 1
CS31

I’m an entering CSE major.
I’ve taken math 31ab, 32ab, so I think my math is solid for Physics, but all the counselors kept saying that taking Physics the first quarter is a bad idea. Any input? Thanks!

it’s actually better to start taking physics early because the engineers will start taking 1A in the winter and the curve tends to be higher since everyone seems to understand mechanics.

Thanks for your input. I wanted to take math, but the only open section of Math 33A (I’ve already taken up to 32B) conflicts with CS1. I ended up dropping Physics and signed up for a life science GE (Neuroscience 10).

This email is to inform you that a classmate of yours from Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering 107, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering 150B or Computer Science 31, in Spring 2009, has been hospitalized with infectious tuberculosis. The Los Angeles Public Health Department is recommending that you have a tuberculosis skin test around the week of August 17, 2009, either at the Ashe Center on campus or if you prefer at your private medical provider. Most people who are exposed to this infection do not become ill and have no symptoms.

etc etc
…interesting. guess i better go get tested
