yeah, candler’s teaching 123a fall, i think the CM150 course has no lecture listed… which is kind of weird…

How is EE131A? It’s taught by Dolecek, but there’s no reviews on her from bruinwalk, is she new?

it’s not that easy. the homeworks are easy because people have the solution manual. however, if you can get a hold of past exams then you should be good. try to get stuff from a couple of years ago too. it’s possible.

I’ve heard bad things about him. i’ve heard that the nanotchnology area is very repetitive with ee 121b, but do it if you’re interested. at least it’s better than the management option.

where do you guys find stuff from past quarters? my schedule for fall looks like:

math 132 (staff, because chayes is the only other teacher)
mat sci M105 (kodambaka)
ee 123a (candler)
phy sci 5 (barnard/esdin)

any suggestions? what else should i take instead of phy sci 5 for the life science ge? geog 5 was my first choice, but it conflicts with my class times.

Has anyone done their technical breadth on CEE? I’m thinking of doing that, and taking CEE153 in the fall. Any comments?

thanks fatedreality

does anyone have any comments on taking math 32B/33B concurrently during summer session?

you have to meet the right people.

welcome to ucla, where anything can be had. here you will learn how to cheat and use google!

Has anybody taken BME / EE M260? It was last taught by Prof. Jack Judy.

Also, any thoughts on BE M105, and BME C187?

Does anyone know if the material in Stats 100A requires prior calculus knowledge?

Under the registrar it lists Enforced Requisites: Mathematics 32B and 33A.

I’m wondering if I would be able to get by without those math classes.

I’ve taken 32A and skipped to 33B but haven’t taken those two above yet.

33A isn’t a real need but you’ll do a bunch of multiple integrals and the Jacobian shows up briefly. There’s no Stokes/Green or anything though.

I’m taking stats right now in the summer with Christou, and although so far it’s been pretty fundamental stuff [combinatorial analysis, etc] we did cover binomial expansion, which you go over in 33A. Judging from the syllabus, there is a lot of 33A stuff that overlaps, so I think taking 33A first would be very useful. Also, we cover Jacobian matrices, which is a topic covered in 32B.

However, from what i remember of 32B, we talked about Jacobians for 10 minutes, so not having learned it probably won’t do you any harm.
You could probably take 100A without taking any prereqs, by simply bypassing it in URSA, BUT you would ahve to do a bit of outside studying to compensate. Unless you’re taking a decently easy professor [ i heard the one teaching next quarter will be pretty easy] i’m guessing most professors will assume you’ve learned the topics from 32B and 33A already and skim over them.

Mleh. So far, so good for me though. Christou and the TA walk us through EVERYTHING, and attendance + hw [which you are told how to do in discussion] = 30% of the grade, so i’m anticipating an easy A =P

its probably doable, but super challenging. I think if I were to rank all the lowerdiv math classes by difficulty, it’d be

32B
33B
and then others.

if the professor isnt too badly rated on bruinwalk, then go for it. haha worst case scenario is, you won’t have to bear with the pain of taking 32B for a full 10 weeks =p

Hey guys, incoming freshman for mechanical engineering here! I was just wondering what you guys would recommend for my first quarter or two as far as units and the number of classes I take (and I suppose which classes)?

I’m pretty sure I passed the AP Calc AB test (not sure where that puts me). Also, I’m somewhat confident with my AP Physics C test. Would you recommend I take entry level physics again, or use my AP Physics C credits–if I get them–to skip?

take
Chem20A [i think that it’s required]
Math32A [ or 31 A if you didnt do well enough on math AP to pass out of 31 A and B]
a GE of your choice

here’s what the school tells you to take… ask around about the difficulty of professors [and look them up on bruinwalk.com ] and adjust your quarters accordingly so you dont have too hard a time

Are the CS180/CS131 discussions mandatory? They are both 12-2 Friday but I need to take both since I don’t really have a lot of options.

I believe cs 180 has quizzes during discussion, and you really don’t want to miss a 131 discussion since the projects are tricky and you might get a hint or two.

Has anyone here done EE184D or EE184DA? Briggs is teaching it Fall, but what exactly is the independent group project design? He’s a whacky guy, I kind of want to take the class…

new user here!

whats the word on ee100? i want some circuits background but don’t have the time to take 10 and 110

also does anyone know if you can go to 115A with just 100?

Thanks a bunch everyone!

Hey guys,

I’m an incoming freshman and my Orientation is scheduled for next week. I have no idea what classes to take my first quarter - or any quarter, haha - and what professors are good, etc.

I’m a Computer Science and Engineering major, any help is greatly appreciated!

A popular choice is chem20a, math, cs 1, and cs 31. But you can take whatever you’d like, really.
