UCLA Engineering Q&A

You can take 33B before 33A.

I don’t know any schools that will lead and promise students jobs without their own effort. I think you will need to apply on your own and/or network to find opportunities. An internship is almost required for you to land a full time job immediately after graduation, unless you have good connections with someone who can hire you.

My only recommendations are to study hard, get good grades, focus on developing academic skills required for your field, and participate in student groups related to your major. Be diligent in applying for summer internships starting your second year.

By your third year, I think you should know what type of path you will take after graduation (graduate school/academia or industry).

TBP offers tutoring in engineering courses.

You can even take 33B before 31A. Prereqs aren’t actually enforced.

wow it’s been a while. cool to see you’re still around BoelterHell

Boelter Hall is old but will always be around. I don’t think they will tear me down for a while. They took away my friend Engineering I…

Is it advised to use AP Mechanics credit by petition to skip Physics 1A?

Didn’t think it was possible to petition out of the physics 1a or 1b… Unless you had like a 5 on the Ap Physics text… I wouldn’t skip out of it anyway.

hello    ;)

Hey, So how fast does CS35L fill up during first past/second pass?? Or can i get it during first pass along with Math 33B and EE 10? And how is this schedule for Winter 2012?

Math 33b, EE10, CS 35L and EE 101.
with, Visan, Gupta, Eggart, Williams B.S. ? I’m kind of worried that doing EE10(which i imagine is quite difficult) would be hard to do concurrently with another EE class, ee101 and a cs35L class. Would cs35L be kind of easier if i would have done CS33 by then?
If it was too much, i was thinking of replacing EE101 with a GE.

I had a question about CS 35L too, does CS 32 & CS 35L in Winter or CS 33 & CS 35L in Spring make more sense?

Is the workload for CS 35L heavy? Apart from the CS classes I’ll have math and physics both quarters.

Boelter Hall is siamese twins with Engr. IV. To separate them, one would have to die. I think that’ll be you, Boelter. Or maybe I don’t know any biology–yeah, that’s more likely.

@yolo

35L is about the same workload as 31.

33 used to be an intense course, but it seems that it isn’t any longer… Gone are the 50-hour projects.

Labs always fill up first pass. If you want it, then you need to sign up for it before your other classes. You can take 33B any quarter whatsoever, so don’t rush to get it now. It can even be your very last class at ucla.

That schedule is difficult but manageable. Replacing one with a GE ain’t a bad idea, though. A GE is like one tenth (or less) the work of an engr. class.

Ah, the good old days of 33 with Rohr…

Thanks uclacee, I wanted to finish the math33b cause some of the classes have co-reqs with them.

Is this course load too much?
Math 32A
Chem 20B
Chem 20L
Physics 1A

Sent from my R800at using CC

Can someone give me feedback on this courseload for Winter '12?

CS M151B
CS 111
EE 115A
Physics 4BL

I have heard that 111 is horrible… so how do-able would this schedule be? If anything , I will probably just drop the 4BL lab.

Hi,
Im thinking of applying to UCLA for MS in civil engineering. i wonder if my result is good enough to be admitted. Below are my details:

International student
Bs Civil Engineering from Uni of South Alabama
GPA 3.98
Active in sports and organizations
Tau beta pi member
One summer internship in Malaysia

Would you give me your opinion? what is my chance of getting admitted?

Looks reasonable.

151B isn’t much work, but everything else is. It’s doable, but you won’t have much free time.

Grad school admissions depend heavily on letters of recommendation. Your background and GPA seem to be decent, though.

MS applications to the civil department depend ONLY on:

grades

GRE

letters of rec

Since you did your undergrad at a college no one’s heard of, (2) and (3) will factor much more heavily in your specific application. You said you’re a foreign student, so make sure your english GRE score is adequate.
