UCLA Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

does anyone know how much of an affect dropping a course with a W would have on my status? it is not a major pre req and also does not affect my IGETC

@GoodAfternoonSir okay I think maybe the whole cheating the system thing is probably what got you rejected with the units. I didn’t read your full post. Why didn’t you just stay an extra year at cc and pace them out to 16-17? You’re so young. You could have probably gotten accepted if you didn’t pile up all those units

@lenardizag isn’t the deadline on your regents invite?

@stressexpress @halpmehxd There is a Live Transfer Q&A event going on next Thursday on IG and FB. There are also many current/past transfers in the fb group that are more than happy to answer questions!

@americajm it’s not a good idea. Have you already done it? If so let them know right away. Admission is conditional on completing current coursework. If you feel you have to withdraw from a class talk to admissions first for guidance.

@jedenic ooo I didn’t know about that thank you!!

@americajm I think you are fine, but you have to report the change.

I said that because I dropped one course at the end of March and reported it. I still got accepted from UCLA in April, and I saw that update on my current courses listing on MyUCLA. Right now I am waiting for their answer because I dropped one more class that causes me to get only partial IGETC. However, IGETC is NOT the requirement for admission at UCLA; I hope I will be ok.

@katyamzz did you say Haas “inflates” gpa?? I’ve done a lotttt of research into the program and that directly contradicts everything I’ve read about it…

@katyamzz Oh hey there! Sorry for replying so late I just got home after classes haha.

One of my advisors told me that one of the main reasons I got rejected was because taking so many units in my last semester got them “nervous”.

The appeals section demands significant new information such as new grades and other accomplishments. I made some accomplishments that I believe are significant during this semester and I will point them out absolutely.

I asked my professors to let me take the finals early so that I’ll know what my grades are before sending my appeal and I’m expected to receive all A’s. Having A’s in 10 classes is alot because I’m taking more than a year’s worth of work.

I won’t stay another year at cc, to be honest. I got into UC Davis so it’s not the end of the world at all. I’ll just work hard over there and I can apply to Cal and UCLA again in law school.

I contacted my counselors and talked to my school’s UCLA rep, and told them about how I planned to drop a math class with a ‘W’ that was not a major prereq, would not breach my igetc or provisions, and would not put me under 60 units. She said that with this situation, I will likely be just fine. UCLA admission staff is trained to not give you advising on hypotheticals or to give you any answer they cant guarantee, I believe. Language related major btw.

Got into UC San Diego. 7 out of 10.

Major: Theatre Design
GPA: 3.46
IGETC: Completed
Major: Completed
AA-T: Completed
CC: Santa Monica College (3 years every single semester including winter & summer)
Applied to: CSULB, CSULA, CSUF, CSUN, UCLA, UCSD, UCB, UCR, UCSB, UCI
Accepted to: CSULA (2/15), CSULB (2/23), UCR (3/6), UCSB (3/19), UCI (4/18), UCB (4/19), UCSD (4/26)
Waitlist: CSUN (didn’t send paperwork), CSUF (4/1)
Rejected: UCLA (4/24)

@90smix Thank you! I’m planning to go to CSUN since I got a full ride there.

However, I just checked my UCSD portal right now. I got waitlisted there! Hopefully if they take me off the waitlist for acceptance, I’ll probably go there

@HarleyTheQuinn Did you get into UCLA?

@sagaciousforever Sadly no :’(…

@HarleyTheQuinn That’s fine!

I am sure wherever you go, you will succeed.

Anyways, this will be my last post in the UC transfer thread! (unless someone tag me) Thank you college confidential for keeping and maintaining these forums!

Thank you for handling us and keeping us in right track even when we were little crazy @Ohm888 Also, I’m so glad of getting know everyone here and we all made jokes, help each other, share little information we knew about this process even when we had small disagreements. Good Luck Everyone! I know you all will be successful wherever you end up!!

Good luck!!

I’m very hesitant on which school to pick. I got admitted to uci business admin and ucla business econ. I’m more interested in UCI because it has business admin, which is my preferred major, but UCLA has been my dream school for a very long time. I don’t which school would be the best for me in terms of finding a job. I would appreciate any information you guys have on both schools for a business major.

@Trashception yeah the haas electives are known for inflating your gpa (which is a good thing). if you look at the average gpa business admin is one of the highest gpa’s on campus. It’s the freshmen who apply to Haas at the end of their sophomore year who got directly admitted into cal as pre bus admin that tanks the average as a whole because their gpas are relatively lower because they had to take their calc1/2 courses at cal along the other pre reqs at CAL. The average gpa is 3.5 for bus admin (which is on the higher side). Haas transfers usually graduate Cal with a 3.8-4.0 because they can start taking upper div haas courses already, and dont have to do any of the math at Cal (The only hard class is calc 1/2 lol the pre reqs for haas aren’t hard). MAJORS with relatively no STEM courses have the highest gpa at CAL. This is what my friends who are currently seniors at Cal have told me.

You’re gonna be in good hands at haas~ Congrats!

@zk00 I am in your shoes. But I chose UCI because I wanted to study Marketing to which I have zero knowledge related. I wanted to enjoy exploring so that I do not care for my opportunities after I graduate. Plus, UCI would be easier to maintain a high GPA for applying to Graduate school.

Until I get UCLA acceptance, then people started to tell me about what my future will be after graduation. Maybe UCLA will be more competitive, but I know Finance and Accounting a bit, both academic (I will have AS-Accounting this spring) and experiences. Besides, UCLA offered great financial aid even though I do not qualify for Regents as other UCs provided to me, UCLA gave me other grants. However, people knocked me out by telling me about UCLA alumni, restaurant, vibes, etc. One odd reason is I just found that the Anteater does not look as cool as Bruin…hihi…

So now I really want to go to UCLA except my admission is rescinded, noted that I paid $250 to SIR in UCI about 10 days ago.
