UCLA Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

Yes you are correct each major has its own rules, but generally the language majors at UCLA state that they require at least one year , but two years are preferred.

From the transfer admission guide:
“LANGUAGE MAJORS
Arabic African Languages French
French & Linguistics German Greek
Greek & Latin Iranian Studies Italian
Italian & Special Fields Latin Portuguese
Spanish & Linguistics Spanish & Portuguese Spanish
Russian Languages & Literature
Scandinavian Languages & Cultures
All language majors:
At least one year (2 semesters/3 quarters) of courses in the
selected language
A second year of courses in the selected language is
recommended prior to admission
Additional requirements for each major may be completed after
transfer and can be found in the UCLA General Catalog:
catalog.registrar.ucla.edu
Required by end of spring before transfer:
• One year of college level coursework in the declared
language OR at least one year of high school in which the
primary language of instruction was the declared language.
NOTE: Completion of two years of college level foreign
language is strongly preferred”

@Randapanda126 your posts are confusing. You initially stated that high school language courses could not be used; hence the various responses.

Then you said just one year was needed for language majors and I said “not necessarily… each major has its own rules.” Then you said “generally,” appearing to contradict that comment, which I believe matches “not necessarily.”

So as not to confuse language majors, one year may not be enough. It’s important to check the major req on assist. ?

Right, high school courses do not count. Yes each major has its own rules for requirements, but language majors as stated in the Transfer Admission Guide, 1 year (2 semesters) of college level is required, with an additional 2 semesters preferred.

@ohm888 Hey, I’m planning on applying to transfer to ucla this upcoming school year and was wondering if I can still transfer if I have two more prerequisite for Econ during spring semester prior to entering a UC? For example, Econ requires me to complete micro, macro, calc 1 and calc 2. I will be taking micro and calc 1 this upcoming fall which leaves macro and calc 2 for spring. Will ucla still accept me if I still have major prep courses to take during the spring? Don’t UC release decisions prior to spring semester ending so will they even use my spring semester as a factor for admissions?

If anyone else can also provide some info, that’d be great too.

@GotYa55 I can’t really say. You’re missing 50% of the requirements, and Econ is highly selective. You can’t add macro in fall? They’re not sequential. You can take both in the same term. That would be my advice. Save gen ed/IGETC for last term.

@Ohm888 Ah I see. All of macro is currently full at my cc so I don’t think I can fit that into my schedule, unfortunately. Have you seen students who got admitted who were in my position as well? I was checking assist.org and it says that I just have to complete these courses during the spring prior to entering a UC. So I’m guessing my chances would be really screwed then? Even if I have a 4.0 rn?

@Ohm888 Do you know if its hard to get a job on campus? I was planning to apply for a job at one of the preschools/daycares on campus since I have my associate preschool teacher certificate. I go to orientation on July 15 so I wanted to apply as soon as I have an idea of my class schedule. I just want to have a job lined up.
I think I was also accpeted for work study option. Im not quite sure what work study entails.

@GotYa55 get it online at cvc.edu.

@Randapanda126 unfortunately, I have no idea. Sorry.

@Ohm888 Would taking Macro over the winter break be a good idea too? This is the only option I can think of.

That will help because you can rush grade to them in March.

Guys I just made a really bad mistake. I was aboard for a month and totally forgot to send in my transcript to UCLA. The deadline was July 1st and I just sent in my order to send in today. The email I got said that they will place an academic hold on my record if I do not send my transcript in time. This might be a HUGE issue since my orientation is July 15th and I will be signing up for classes then. Will this lead to me not being able to sign up for classes?

I have a plan though if this is going to be an issue. I will call my CC and ask them to prepare my transcript to be picked up rush order and then have my mom pick it and deliver it to me so that I can have in their record by the time it comes to sign up for classes.

Will this be an issue and will my plan work??? GUYS IM FREAKING OUT!! I can’t call UCLA because it is the weekend.

Email them and say it’s in transit and that you were out of the country and had trouble monitoring the transaction. Do you have an unofficial to send in the meantime? If so, I would - even if it’s a screenshot from the portal. The fact that your reaching out will not lead to your being dumped, I am sure.

@anthro101 Since your orientation is this coming Monday. You just bring the transcript (sealed envelope) to turn it in in person at Admission Office during your orientation day.

I don’t know your CCC but my CCC takes only 5 minutes to print and stamp for express transcript.

@Ohm888 @Bibihcmvn Should I sent the email saying I was having issues because I was aboard or should I just turn in my transcript to the admissions office and not send an email. Also if I were to send an email or screenshot a transcript who would send it to Admission???

If orientation is this coming Monday bring an unofficial. Also you can drop the official off at that time, but it must be in an official sealed envelope from the CCC. You can go request it.

@anthro101 It took them about 2 weeks to answer your email. So you email now does not make any sense. Tomorrow is the orientation, you will have time to walk in the Admission Office to explain, turn in your official transcript during the day.

My story: I asked them if my transcript will be late, can I bring one on my orientation and turn in at the Admission Office in person. After 2 weeks they answered they only received from one CCC of mine, so I only have to bring the second CCC’s transcript on my orientation, they reminded me to bring a sealed one and do not open it. But when I knew they received one, I was sure the second will be updated a bit later as the second school sent it one week later than the first one. However, I still replied that I will bring it to turn in on my orientation day. But last week my portal updated that they received both. And later I got their email confirmed that they got all transcripts.

Anyone submit a mutual housing swap and gotten it approved yet? I’ve Ben waiting to hear back since early June

Hi I’m sorry to interrupt. But do you think it is ok to miss one pre-req when there are many major pre-reqs? I’m applying to joint Math&Econ major next year and there are 11 pre-reqs…
