UCLA football 2011-2012

What’s the general feel this year?
I just read that Hundley got injured and won’t start…way to kill my hopes :/

The pressure is on Neuheisel this year to do well. I heard we’re strong on defense and the front 7 are really solid. We have a returning 1000 yard rusher on offense and QB that’s coming up, so hopefully we at least get a winning record this year…

What’s the feel? I always get my hopes up, and BruinsNation and Jon Gold reports good things, and then the season usually ends with a losing record or us not going to a bowl game. Nothing out of the ordinary.

What do you mean by the feel? Are you asking if the team legitimately feels like they are good, or what?

I meant more on how you guys feel this upcoming season is going to look.

Glad to hear some positive news. I also read BruinsNation which has me torn…everything sounds good but I’ve become jaded the past 3 years haha. Still, the SC game might be worth getting a den season pass for.

Hundley was never going to start the season. Expecting a true freshman to come in and start immediately is just asking to be disappointed. The best thing for the team was always going to be improvement from Prince and/or Brehaut allowing Hundley to redshirt.

As for the team as a whole, both coordinators are big question marks. This team does have a lot of talented depth on defense, and there’s potential on offense with guys like Barr, Rosario, Carroll, James and Jones. The team could be solid. On the other hand, the offense could be a disaster. It might take a few games to tell, depending on how much the Pistol is used.

Looks like this season will be better than past seasons… I mean Kirk Herbstreet from ESPN predicts us winning (yes, winning) the Pac 12 south. USC, as you might have heard, is not eligible to win the Pac 12 south as a result of the embezzlement charges and whatnot so we actually have a good chance.

No. Kirk Herbstreit predicted SUC to win Pac-12 South, UCLA second, but UCLA sneaks into the title game cuz SUC got caught cheating.

If you want to go to a football game, be prepared to spend 30 minutes on bus (assuming no traffic) to Rose Bowl.

lol no worries, I’ve been to a lot of games. They are definitely all-day events.

Yeah I knew holding out for Hundley was a longshot, but after watching Craft, Prince, and Brehaut… it would be nice to watch a good QB

I’ve got 50 bucks that Neuheisel is gone after this year, 20 that he’s gone mid-season.

It would have been amazing if events turned out like Oregon’s coach…sure they have great recruiting, but since Kelley became head coach in 2009, they went from Holiday/Sunbowls to trips to the Rose bowl 2009 and BCS 2010.

I would take the latter bet. I very much doubt he’ll be gone before the end of the season, unless there are major NCAA rules violations uncovered.

Anyone know where to watch the game on campus? I don’t have a TV!

ackerman. Go to the carl’s junior lounge.

Game is nuts. Offense is solid !? Defense needs to pick up

They picked it up a couple quarters too late  At least we did reasonably well.

Offense was the best we’ve had in a long time…although Houston has one of the worst defenses. Brehaut was great.

Defense was atrocious. Might as well have just rolled over and died.

Well that was deflating. The offense was better than expected, and there’s certainly potential there, even if Houston’s defense is probably not that good. UCLA’s defense was just terrible though. The scheme was bad; the tackling was worse. It’s hard to be optimistic about how much that can improve.

On the bright side, Texas isn’t blowing out Rice, SJSU is bad, and Oregon St lost to Sacramento St, so each of the next looks reasonably winnable.

How about a new kicker that can actually make field goals! UCLA must have someone else that can kick better!

its ironic because we used to be known as a kicking team with Kai Forbath.
it sounds terrible but it could be a blessing in disguise: since we ALWAYS play conservative, now we’ll have to go for it more on 4-1.

I can’t remember the last time we didn’t have a good kicker. Before Forbath, we had guys like Justin Medlock, Chris Sailer, and Bjorn Merten, all of whom were All-Americans.
