You have a good point. This year is unique, so as @Gumbymom said, it may not be an indication of any good or bad news.
@Gumbymom thank you for sharing your knowledge. Some questions:
-
Wondering if you know why it appears for a very small and select group of majors UCLA started pulling off the waitlist already before 5/15, while for most majors, itâs after 5/15.
-
Does UCLA admissions pull off the waitlist to fill specific spots at specific programs or are they going to the waitlist to fill a broader, general pool of students which are then distributed among the UCLA colleges/schools?
UCLA has not pulled anyone off the waitlist for this year that I am aware but I do not work in admissions.
They pull off the waitlist based on their institutional priorities which only admissions can determine. The majority of waitlist admits will be in the College of Letters and Sciences which houses the majority of majors and also the only College that does not admit by major.
UCLA has an overall target enrollment along with their specific College enrollment targets so they will pull admits to fill in spots where needed.
Someone on the thread mentioned a week or so ago that someone they knew got off the waitlist in the music school. Makes sense, since their acceptance rate is higher. That would likely explain the red message in the portal. But that is all I have heard to be honest.
Yes, that is what I remembering seeing, too, hence the question.
Music majors have a supplemental application along with auditions in their application review so different admission requirements than the majority of waitlisted students.
Good to know and thank you.
So does that mean that the waitlist process is different for students who had to turn in a supplemental application + audition and/or portfolio?
AndâŠin what way would the process or timeline for admission off the waitlist be different for students in this smaller category of waitlisted students, if you have any historical insights?
The waitlist process for these specialized majors is different in regard to evaluating whom they will admit off the waitlist due to the supplementals but I cannot tell you if the waitlist timeline is any different since the SIR date is the same.
Thank you. This is helpful. May 16 and the days afterward could not come soon enough for all of us here, no matter what major.
Wait, Grubymom, I thought that the college of Letters and Science doesnât admit by major. Maybe I am mistaken. Also, I know that engineering definitely does do admits by major.
Also, I was the one that said that someone got off of music. I can state that this is 100% true and I know her. Yes, she is in the music college for a specific instrument that I wonât state.
My mistake, I missed the Not in does not admit by major. I corrected the post. That is what I get for typing on my phone.
Ok, no worries, just double checking.
I have a question. So I have received my financial aid packages from two UCs that I was accepted to. In the event that I get off the waitlist at UCLA, can I expect the amount of aid to be similar?
The FA package should be similar.
are u oos or in state?
In state
definitely similar. I am unfortunately oos.
Ohh I saw this one app on tik tok, its called âMosâ and helps you find scholarships that are best suited for you. You should check it out!
thanks!! Iâll check it out. that out of state tuition is definitely heftyâŠ
