You’re right. I feel like a lot are just waiting for the deadline to pass as opposed to flat out declining as you said, hoping for more aid or a change in financial situation before the 15th.
Probably no movement tomorrow either, since it would still be considered before the deadline. I honestly think the first batch will be this Saturday.

Not yet. Today is still considered before the SIR deadline, so probably nothing today either.

The days and weeks following May 16 are only the beginning of admissions off the waitlist (torturous, I know), so I was wondering if you have any insights on the following:

Why have a handful of admissions from the waitlist historically occurred so late - in July and August - in previous years?

I know they’re filling spots based on needs and goals, but under what circumstances would a spot be suddenly offered so close to the start of the fall quarter?

Usually late waitlist admits can be due to “summer melt” where the student has second thoughts of attending or students that do not meet the conditions of admission since Transcripts are due in July.

Is it possible to change your major/minor during this stage of the waitlist process?
No you cannot change majors while on the waitlist. Minors are not considered in the admissions process. You add the minor once admitted and have completed the minor courses.

Any news so far?
Nope. Protests are ramping up at UCLA once again, I hope they do not go fully online again, as that might affect whether admissions counselors are on campus or not.
UCSB just let more waitlisted in today, expecting some movement here tomorrow.
You are probably right. Movement will likely come in the morning hours.
My son got in off the waitlist this morning (OOS, full-pay, chemsitry)! Not even sure if he got the email — I checked his portal and the acceptance letter is now there.
