For waitlists and appeals, the school should send out an email indicating there was an update. This may not be always true and yes students have stated that they were not notified with an email.
For waitlisted students, probably a good idea to check the student portal frequently just in case.
The housing deposit check cannot be transfered to another UC campus?
If the waitlisted is accepted in June/July, the housing is still guaranteed? (All Freshman is required to live on campus)
He will rescind one of offers SIRāed by today (He only SIRāed two schools, donāt blame him ), but weāre concerned about housing if he gets off the waitlist, he prefers to live in the dorms.
Housing deposits should be refundable but not transferable to another UC campus. Check the specific information and deadline to get the refund.
Freshman housing is guaranteed for all students that get off the Waitlist but it may not be their preferred choice but UCLA housing will work with the waitlisted students to get housing. There is an Waitlist FAQ on UCLA Myapplication status website which should state all pertinent information.
Yeah itās really interesting to me as this has never happened before as far as I know. I wonder if itās because yield is so low right now as students are waiting to commit. That makes the most sense to me but Iām unsure.
The good news is that nobody on waitlist is admitted yet, we all have chance. We were worried about the housing, but feel relieved, thanks for Gumbymom.
The deadline to accept offer is @11:59PM tomorrow! We donāt bank on the waitlist. Good luck!
Read over UCLAās housing contract and see what the deadline is for a refund. Since it is early in the process, most schools will give you a refund minus a service fee.
I was thinking the same. I believe last year the % of waitlist that were accepted was approximately 11% (unusually high for UCLA), and they started taking from the WL before the SIR date.
That makes sense. My thought was that they are still unsure of what their yield would be because students havenāt committed yet. I think in both scenarios (low yield and high yield at this point), admits would have happened so farā¦
At this point, most (if not all) FA packages have been sent out, so they should be able to accurately predict their yield. They are really waiting till the very last second to ensure no inaccuracies.
And yes, I agree that admits should have happened so far regardless of low or high yield⦠weird
If UCLAās yield is high, waitlist admits could be much later into the summer or even not at all. Iām not totally sure how Californias current budget deficit and the proposed cuts to the middle class scholarship and Cal grants might also be a factor for waitlist admits this year or if that only affects next year and beyond, but I would guess that out of state waitlist admits might happen first.
In my opinion, I donāt think we should be reading into the late timeline too much in terms of numbers taken off of the waitlist. This year has a lot of uncertainties and itās likely that a good number of people accepted to ucla are not declining, but rather having the deadline just pass (this happens with every college, every year), due to all the delays this year they might not want to risk admitting any too early until they have their final numbers after the 15th has passed.
