UCLA Freshman Class of 2028 Waitlist/Appeals Discussion

AGAIN I DON’T KNOW THIS (and judging by everyone around me it looks to be the complete opposite), but like wouldn’t that be a possible explanation too? :sob:

Honestly I was thinking the same. Like if yield is so low, why make us wait? My worry is that yield is higher, so they are waiting to see if there is enough space and how much they could really admit after the OOS and international students respond by Thursday/Friday. But then again, @katfromcal made a good point about the timing and how it relates to a lower yield. It’s honestly so confusing and draining trying to figure out what they’re doing.

Could be, but I think giving students additional time to decide would probably increase the likelihood that a student would accept the offer, and enroll in the fall. Increase the yield %, which is an important metric for the school (for many reasons, including state funding)

Agreed. Like someone said earlier, the timing this year is unpredictable. I wasn’t expect two waves one day after another, so who knows what tomorrow holds.

This is way too stressful bro

Yep :sleepy:

Does anyone know if there were any INTL students taken off the waitlist on Thursday? So far I have only heard from OOS students, nothing from anyone INTL.

Yes, there were International admits on Thursday.

Yup Intl admits on Thursday. Everyone but California Residents admitted by the University of CALIFORNIA, Los Angeles. :smiling_face_with_tear:

The OOS/international and in state are different “buckets” as they have different admit numbers they want to hit in both of them. The OOS/international has a cap of how many they can admit, but it is also a lot more $ to UCLA, so they want to make sure they reach that cap of accepted students to meet their budgets.

Exactly.

IS families, do not yet give up hope. There is NO evidence or reliable sign anywhere that there will be very few IS admits.

I posted this previously but it’s worth repeating for the IS families in this thread:
The one thing we can count on, based on previous years’ data, is that in general, a majority of students coming off the waitlist will be IN-STATE - mostly above 70% since 2014.

That’s 10 years of data showing a solid trend in percentage of waitlist admits.

At the same time, I wanted to share this for anyone who needs to hear it:

Given the uncertainty of the wait and how there’s so much unknown about the timing and number of students who will be admitted off the waitlist, and that there’s so much that needs to be done now through the summer for admitted students, it will help to do this:

Start LOVING the university/college that LOVES YOU.

This is what I’ve told my D24 and this is what she’s doing since she submitted the SIR well before the deadline.

To manage expectations, I’ve told her to embrace the UC that accepted her since she really liked the campus after taking a tour and the major/program she chose is very good. So she is focusing on that UC, got her housing confirmation, is now looking at potential roommates, meal plans, etc.

We don’t talk about the UCLA waitlist. I’m the only one checking the UCLA waitlist quietly

The university that accepted you may not be your #1 dream university, but it believes in you and has made room for you.

does anyone know if there will be anything tomorrow?

No one knows. I don’t think so though, I think towards the end of the week.

I think you’re probably right. It’s just so interesting to me that they haven’t released IS LS yet as engineering and out of state students shouldn’t impact it… UGH so annoying!

Yep! But then again, if engineering and OOS doesn’t impact it… then it could happen anytime, not just towards the end of the week. Ugh, this is so stressful and confusing… I say one thing one second then something else the next LOL

I think you are right. If there were a lot of vacant seats on the bus, they would be trying to fill the bus. Oh well…It is what it is.

Just go in L&S!
