UCLA Freshman Class of 2028 Waitlist/Appeals Discussion

Thank you! But at this point I’m losing hope. It was my fault for even opting in and doing this to myself for 3 months. I hope we get to share good news with each other one day! :heart_hands:

It is torture. I hope gets over soon for whoever is waiting.

I think the best way to deal with this is just promise yourself that at a certain point, you need to move on. I’ve set my point for tomorrow :joy: (laughing the pain away)

You will do great wherever you go. Move on !!

Red and gold looked better on me anyway

I will be in UCLA for my elder kid graduation on June 15th. The torture my younger will go through. I feel for my poor child .

Im so sorry:( Let him know that from a fellow waitlisted student to another - you’re gonna do amazing things wherever you are, especially with the support of such an amazing mother!

My elder one will be going to UCSD for Graduate school. That is why I feel so much for my baby.

Totally understandable and valid. The waitlist process is even more random than regular admission I would argue, so we shouldn’t beat ourselves up about it.

Thanks to @Psworld for sharing that TikTok post by Iris Berkley.

Here’s the good news and bad news.

Bad: The info is legit. Iris Berkley also posted the same video to her Instagram. She does have a college counseling business (looked it up) and wouldn’t post the email from Cal’s Jocelyn De Jong if it wasn’t real.

Good: She posted about UCB, not UCLA. This year is a wonky year for college applications and admissions for all the UCs but especially for UCLA, which has been in the spotlight. Having said that, I expect IS admits are imminent but think it might be a small to moderate number.

Agreed! The info is definitely legit. What threw me off though is the person earlier who said their friend (IS) got off for L&S today. I wonder if there was a small wave today that we just didn’t know about…

Also, I’m thinking that since something like this was sent out for UCB today, we may get an update from UCLA soon too (whether it be good or bad news). I remember they sent one of those out in 2020.

As I have stated before, I have no insider information since I am not involved with admissions nor an admissions counselor. I do receive the UC Counselor Newsletters but not specific notices such as the letter posted about UCB’s waitlist.

Historically, UCLA has had a higher yield rate for in-state applicants 61% vs UCB’s 48% for last year.

So many reasons why UCB had little waitlist movement vs UCLA.

  1. UCB had a better idea of their enrollment targets this year and made the right amount of offers.

  2. Just viewing what individuals have posted about the UCLA protests, this may have been a reason for UCLA’s lower yield and why they are taking more students off the waitlist vs. UCB.

  3. I have seen many comments that UCB’s FA packages were better than UCLA’s so another motivator for students to select UCB over UCLA.

Unfortunately unless the UC’s post all their statistical information about the waitlists, all this is a guessing game.

My Daughter got off the waitlist this morning for Stats and Data Science(In State/Bay area). We got an email at 6:24 am. She spent many days working on her LOCI and we think that made a difference !
Good Luck to everyone here especially @Stacie233 … I have been reading all of your posts and hope you all can make it through as well ! UCLA is not done yet !

I’m stunned - my son got in today for Bio. I was 99% certain last night it wasn’t going to happen for him, especially because my older son was on the UCLA waitlist 3 years ago and didn’t get in. Wow. Congrats to the others who got admitted!

Congratulations to everyone who got in today. Just wondering if your child will be committing in order to gauge yield off waitlist. Also, what time did you all get notified?

Thank you ! We got an email at 6:24 am. My daughter got off SD waitlist yesterday and was considering that offer but got into UCLA today. She’ll SIR to UCLA. Good Luck to you :+1:

My son also received the email at 6:24am today. I don’t know if my son will accept but I really hope he does. He’s currently SIR’d to UCSB after declining Berkeley, but we live closer to UCLA so that may sway him. Plus he can still surf while attending UCLA and it’s (obviously) a big sports school and I know that appeals to him.
