damn thats hella early. ok thanks for the info!! still hoping i get that email :sob:

It depends on what dorm type and building they get. If they have friends who were already admitted in the regular decision round, the waitlisted student can dorm with them ONLY if they receive the same dorm type and building. If they don’t get the same dorm/building type, the waitlisted student can request a housing assignment change, but it’s not guaranteed that they’ll be able to switch.

UCLA Housing also has this feature where students can fill out their living style preferences (smoking permissions, wake up/sleep times, bringing friends over, etc), and they can be matched to other groups of 2-3 people who have similar preferences. I haven’t used this method so I’m not sure how the entire process will work out.

Students can also find people to dorm with online on social media, like on UCLA’s Class of 2028 Instagram page, but once again, they would have to have the same dorm type and building.

I would assume that if the student doesn’t do any of these methods, they would just receive a random dorm group.

When you form a roommate group, I believe that grouping links the 2-3 members to the same housing type that’s eventually offered - most of my son’s HS classmates heading to UCLA were offered Classic triples, but he grouped with someone from OOS and ended up with a Plaza triple offer at the top of the hill.

Ah I see. So if you form your groups prior to receiving the housing offer, chances are that you will receive the same housing type/dorm?

Make sure you choose deluxe triple if it’s still available, it costs slightly more. It could be damn warm during summer months.

For those still waiting, it’s not over until it’s over. I witnessed many miracles here, but you need to prepare the worst scenario, love the school you committed.

Good luck to ALL! We will drive to LA next week!

I don’t think it’s over! It’s still the beginning of June and If you compare to last years amount of waves, they’re could be more. Just smaller now. Keep your hopes up. We are in this together!

I think that’s how it works. The members of the group are offered the same housing option. The plaza triples have A/C and I think they are the newest housing construction on the hill (at least that’s the info shared with me). I’m sure there are lots of tradeoffs amongst the housing options, so hopefully you get a housing offer that works great for you.

Congrats on getting in!

The deluxe triples are the newest housing on the hill. They all have ac & communal bathrooms. The plaza triples are older but have ac & either private or shared (between 2 rooms) bathrooms.

Seems lowkey like the waves are kind of ending:,) I’m still waiting, but none of my friends who were WL before as polisci majors have gotten off, so that’s stressing me out a little bit. I’m so nervous, but I’m just hoping for the best atp!!

im lowk getting pretty stressed abt this situation too. still praying that i get off but everyday my chances keep getting slimmer

Congratulations to everyone who got off the dreaded WL. My daughter is on several and is being asked to reconfirm her interest in them. She will but I think she is pretty close to done with all of this. She is already taking placement tests and online orientation and seems happy with the school she will be attending. Best of luck to everyone still waiting.

Are the UC’s sending out emails of reconfirmed interest? Best of luck to your daughter.

I have never seen any of the UC’s send out emails for continued interest on remaining on the waitlist. Some UC’s (ie UCSD) have started short listing applicants where they deny many and keep a few on the waitlist to cover ā€œsummer meltā€.

No a couple of private schools. Best of luck to you as well.

The struggle is real. One S24 got of the WL, which was great. His twin brother, however, is still waiting and the chances now appear slim at best. He SIR’ed to another UC and is stoked about that school, but would still pivot to UCLA in a heartbeat if admitted. UCLA Admissions, are you reading this? (ha ha).

I feel the same! My best friend (our moms are best friends so we’re very close) got in a couple weeks ago and I’m still waiting to hear back :frowning: Praying it works out for me, your kid, and everyone else who needs this!
