Oh really?! How cool! Yeah my nana (caretaker) called saying I got it too. How exciting!

What does it sayyyy…? You can PM me now too!

You should just buy your macbook pro new on amazon you would save a bundle on taxes since you wont need to pay them

I would still be getting a better deal at the store we went to. Plus my parents want to pay it in cash so…

Thanks anyways ^-^!

“Oh aaand. It’s easier than you think to switch majors. I remember some people were concerned about that.”
Nice! i really want to change from psychology to economics, which seems or seemed near impossible, could you give any detail on how it’s easier than we thought? thanks for the info!

@transfer- do you have the prereqs done? I was thinking of double majoring in Psych & either poli sci or econ but I don’t have Econ preqs completed. hmmm good luck & post whether you were able to switch!

i’ll let you know after my orientation, session 204

anyone get 205?

@transferbound - Yeah, of course  I’ve been talking to my departmental counselors and it seems they have no big say in the admissions process. The psych counselor, for example, does not hand pick applicants that are best fit for that major. If we were there since freshman year though, the psych counselor would have the majority of say in whether or not we could get into psychology. Don’t know if that makes sense. I’m pretty sure that’s how it works. Basically, now that we’re in, we are being taken care of by the dept. counselors and they make the decisions. And they are more than thrilled that people are interested in their majors. Not saying that it’s a 100% guarantee (especially when it comes down to majors like communications), but it’s definitely easier than I thought. When I contacted the global studies counselor, I was expecting a “no” (I emailed just for the heck of it) but to my surprise she responded very positively and let me know that getting into global studies was very possible. I have completed all my pre-reqs at cc, though, so I think that helped a bit.

One of my dept. counselors specifically said, “Forget what they told you about not being able to change your majors. We can make it happen.” Like, direct quote. I wrote it down. Hahah, not really, but you get my point.

awesome! sounds good, i’d be trying at an impacted major to impacted major switch though. but i’d be happy with an Accounting minor if for some reason major changing doesn’t work out

@edelynly: thanks for all that info! very helpful. and do you happen to know the email address to the dept. counselor for psych? i want to double in psych (i was admitted to polisci), and i have all the prereqs. i was worried that i didn’t have a chance to get in to it, but your posts gave me hope, haha.

For those who attended the 201 session, are your transcripts still pending on myucla or received?

No problem! This should work: undergraduate@psych.ucla.edu – I used the general undergraduate email for global studies too, and the dept. counselor wrote me back. Good luck!

@beer - One of my transcripts was not received by UCLA by orientation. My DPR wasn’t complete but it’s not a big deal since you can always look over it yourself once it’s complete on URSA.

how can we start planning our classes before orientation if we have no clue what do take? Can anybody that is a History major give me some advice?

also did anyone arrive late to orientation? if so… did anything bad happen?

Are you IGETC certified? If you are, then you won’t have to worry about G.E. courses. Have you finished all of your lower division major requirements? If you haven’t, you’ll finish them. If you have, then you’ll begin work on your major. They’ll recommend taking 2 upper division courses in your major, and 1 upper division course that is not in your major (they don’t want to overwhelm you in your first quarter). Take a look at this: [History Department Checklist](http://www.history.ucla.edu/academics/undergraduate/the-program)

As far as you arriving late for orientation. Is anything bad going to happen? No. No one is going to punish you. The orientation is for your benefit. You’re an adult now, take advantage of the resources available to you. It’s long, yes - and sometimes boring, but it’s only one day. Arrive on time and have fun with it.

Start using My Class Planner and save a bunch of different possible schedules. You really need to read up on the requirements for your major. Look at the department website and look at the general catalog. Google UCLA History for all of the links.

Im an Econ major and will be attending orientation this Friday. Can someone please list the classes that I must take in order to get into the Econ program THANKS!

I’m a bit confused and to be honest I’ve been so busy with work and trying to make $$ that I haven’t had time to see the classes I must take. I’m currently writting this while pretending to work :)

Oh and one more thing. How many units did the counselors recommend you take? I was planning on double majoring but I’m rethinking it since I don’t want to over do it. I won’t be working while in school so I’m curious as to how many units are reccomended for a student with nothing else to do but school

Hey Edelynly!

How long did they take (the departmental counselor) to email you back? I emailed Jodi Davis from the Psychology/Psychobiology department on Monday and was just wondering!

Econ 11, 41, and 101.

I’m assuming you’re a Phil major LogicWarrior?
