UCLA Orientation Exposed!

Literally nothing I need is open. I don’t know how I’m going to enroll in classes…

yeah you do meet up with a counselor of your major & they really help you to know what classes you need to take & pretty much give you a list of like “required classes” , “recommended classes” and a list of “easy classes”

so they’ll pretty much tell you to choose a class from each list. but the 3rd class can be whatever you want pretty much.

this may differ for diff majors, but from what i saw, most if not all counselors did this

Bring a laptop. When you first meet up with your orientation/major group, you will do small introductions and discuss your DPR’s. You will then tour the campus a little, go eat lunch with your group, then meet up with your department counselor. Then from then on there are different workshops you can attend.
It’s totally safe to bring a laptop so if you have one you should bring it although I didn’t reallllly need one just because they had papers posted with different classes

A lap top isn’t really necessary other than looking for classes (which is why you should plan ahead of time)

when you eat dinner at covel commons, they wont let you bring any bags into the dining halls, this guy i befriended for the day had to sneak his lap top in when we went to eat.

at 201 the lady at the counter gave us coins for the locker to put our stuff in so it was safe. They give you this backpack type thing to put everything in, I would recommend you bring a laptop so you dont have to look for classes the hard way(paper on wall of huge room)

Political Science majors,

there are literally less than ten classes still open. They are guaranteeing at least one PoliSci class for all incoming transfers, but not the one of your choice. Be prepared to get a shafting this quarter, sry2say.

1 class for your major? that’s crazy!

it’s not too bad, poli sci majors only need 10 poli sci classes.

edit, actually that might be a problem, that means we have to take at least 2 poli sci classes per quarter.

I did not get any math, econ, or statistics courses that were already full. Just a warning, in a lot of majors they DO NOT have “spots” saved for you.

I’m a math/econ major.

Absolutely true. These mystery spots may have held true for the first two sessions, but I did not experience such luck this time around. Have back ups for your back ups. I only have two classes right now and both are just upper division electives. I’m waiting on an e-mail right now to see if I can get enrolled into a political science class.

I love UCLA man. I’m gonna wear UCLA gear every day for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, lots of my classes didn’t transfer cleanly and I’m probably gonna wind up in classes I’ve already taken.

all my classes are still wide open. *knock on wood.

im a biz econ major, btw.

if we’re doing early arrival do we need to bring towels and toothpaste and all those other toiletries?

^ ABSOLUTELY.

It’s not a hotel.

its 8 political science classes btw the other 2 just have to be upper division electives

so if we don’t bring a laptop to orientation, do we just look up classes by some huge spreadsheet on a wall? seems like it could be hectic

^Yes, and it’s only hectic if it’s really crowded, otherwise it’s not too bad

you have a 30 min meeting with your OC which seemed like more than enough time for each person in my group to search for and be happy with classes. unfortunately, some classes didn’t transfer like they should have and my dep counselor advised me to petition to have them count for my major. anyone know how i can go about doing this?

@DCSPORTSFAN - That is not correct, the Poli Sci major has 10 Upper Division Courses. You are confusing electives within the degree and upper division electives required to graduate.

@mkcman17 - Your dep counselor is the one you will need to petition these classes with.

@mkcman17,
Like SimonPhase said, Your dep counselor is the one you will need to petition these classes with. He or she should have, however, given you all petition forms to fill out and hand back. If they didn’t, I suggest you email your dept counselor and find out how you can go about filing the petitions. Some of mine didn’t transfer over, I did a petiton on the spot and it was successful.
