UCLA Regents Scholarship Notification

I’m not sure if the invitations were sent out solely based on GPA because there is no way my GPA (3.86) is the top 1 percent of the applicants. On top of that, I am applying to transfer from an out of state four year university.

^ Now that really messes up our paradigm.

I believe UCLA application readers assign holistic scores to each application. Perhaps the “top 1%” cut off is of a provisional score.

^^ Maybe that 3.86 GPA is not his UC GPA.

Ooh, good point.

Speaking of that, the only sub-A grade I got was at an OOS 4-year university. My GPA would be a 4.00 if UCLA doesn’t take it, though numerous reps assured me of its transferability.

Oh okay, I didn’t realize the UCs have their own method of calculating their GPA.

Dang then I guess their system does work in my favor!

When do we find out if we were selected as Regents Scholars? I was accepted to UCLA, but I haven’t received an e-mail about Regents and I also didn’t see anything Regents related on the acceptance page.

^I have the same question!

It is not on the admission letter. You will have to click financial aid and scholarship link. It takes several more steps to find out.

^Thanks, hlhgxu! Found it (and was selected)! :D

Swiss,

Decisions for Regents have been made already?

can someone give a step by step to check? i’ve been trying…

Hey,

Do people who have submitted their Regents Application earlier have an advantage towards those who submit then toward the deadline?? Or will they all be reviewed all together afterward?

This might sound like a dumb question, but do we only have to send our college transcripts or high school too?

Only college.

@the duck Thanks!

I don’t think that turning them in earlier helps you out. I went to Alejandra Ramirez’s office today to turn in my transcripts and letter of recommendation, and she showed me the big stack of applications. She said that she doesn’t make the final decisions, that a committee does. So they wait until all the applications and documents come in to make decisions on them after the due date. I’m a transfer student; I asked her if all the freshman decisions were made, and she said yes.

Thanks for going in depth on the info. I appreciate it.
Just curious, how many applications would you say she had? And do you know anything about how they select the recipients?
I’m just confused about what to write for my essay that’s why, you know what I mean.

I really cant say how many people turned in their applications because everything was in files so someone could have turned in their application but not their letter of recomendation or transcripts. When she was flipping through them to find my file it looked as if everyone turned in at least one of the necessary documents. I’m not sure what qualities they are looking for when they select their recipients, the only thing I know is that a committee selects the winners, so more than one person is going to decide if your the type of student they want.
I’m not even sure how many students that get invited actually complete the process. A student at my school got invited to compete and they said they weren’t going to compete for it because they wanted to go to Berkley more and they were tired of writing essays and didn’t want to bother getting a letter of recomendation. So hopefully there are more students that feel this way so that the people that actually want to go to UCLA get the scholarship.

Yeah thanks for letting me know. Yeah I just hope it all works out you know, because I have read of people getting the scholarship offer but then being rejected at the end. Not sure if it’s completely true, but so I’ve heard. And good luck to you on your paper as well!

Has anyone already turned their paper in? Or are going to submit anytime soon before the deadline?

I applied for Physiological Science from SMC with 3.94 GPA and I got invited for Regents. However, my friend didn’t get invited with a 4.0 for Psych. major, so I’m assuming it’s either random or depends on other factors other than just your GPA!
