UCLA Transfer decisions out April 19th!

Anyone know how far your GPA can dip this semester? It’s so vvague in the admissions contract. I think I’m getting 3 Cs this semester

You gotta tell em if you get more than 2 C’s or 1 C in any major prep courses

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Miracle of God.

General Comments:
I can’t believe I got into my dream school. I’m super torn between UCLA and UCSD now though.

Pros (UCLA):
-School Pride
-Prestigious/ largely recognized
-Ranked higher in Chemistry (only slightly)
-Guaranteed job at LA Children’s or Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital nearby
-Saban Research Institute/ Cedars Sinai nearby
-Highly Ranked Medical Center
-Diverse student population (Not true of UCSD)
-Beautiful campus
-Social atmosphere of campus and rigorous academics
-Friends at UCLA (No friends at UCSD).

UCSD PROS:
-UCSD has higher rates of successful pre-medical students that get into
top medical schools compared to UCLA (See AAMC website for
statistics).
-Large number of biotech/ biomedical companies surrounding nearby
areas (potential off-campus research opportunities).
-Scripps/ Salk Institute
-Walking distance from the beach
-Suburban environment
-100% committed to academics environment
-Kaplan Learning Center
-Top fifteen university in the nation for my major (ranked slightly lower than UCLA)
-Distinguished Biology faculty

If anyone can tell me more about the excellence of the biomedical research opportunities offered both on and off campus I will probably pick LA. At this point research is a major deciding factor.

Thank you and congratulations everybody!!!

Congratulations to everyone who has received admission to UCLA! I unfortunately did not get accepted. But I was really shocked to find out that I got accepted into Berkeley, although UCLA was my dream school! Now I have to face the decision to whether or not appeal or decide between Berkeley or Irvine.

Chem Major, 3.58 GPA, missing Ochem series and Physics series. Involved in tutoring and helped co-found a collegiate dance team.

What I think hurt me the most was not accomplishing my major pre-reqs.
But I am so thankful to have gotten accepted into 2/3 of the colleges I applied to. I was not expecting to get accepted anywhere. Such a blessing. My reaction was indescribable!

This is what UCLA sent me:

"After careful review of your application for admission, we regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission for the Fall Quarter 2013. UCLA continues to receive more applications for admission than we can accommodate. Given the high caliber of the applicant pool, admission decisions were difficult and involved hard choices. Our decision is not a reflection of your potential to be a successful university student, nor is it meant to minimize your accomplishments. Rather, it is a reflection of the highly competitive admissions process at UCLA.

Preparation for your declared major, as well as your entire academic program and grades earned, were critical elements in the assessment for admission at UCLA. In addition, we take into consideration the educational opportunities and challenges faced by each applicant from information provided in the application. Applications were evaluated within the context of the applicant pool, and no single attribute or achievement guarantees admission—there are simply too many well-qualified, accomplished applicants for the number of transfer spaces available at UCLA.

We recognize that this decision will be a disappointment, but given the depth of the review process, we do not encourage you to appeal this decision. UCLA has filled all available spaces and simply cannot accommodate additional students beyond those we have admitted.

We wish you success in your academic endeavors.

Sincerely,
Gary A. Clark, Jr.
Director
Undergraduate Admissions"

ps I wish us all the best and may whatever choice we make towards our education be beneficial and rewarding.

@ abowwow

Sorry about UCLA, but we got in to Berkeley!

accepted.
major: biochemistry
gpa: 3.94
prerequisite: missing 5 classes. (one ochem, two physics, two bio)
ec: none, literally. I play video game all the time except at the school.

well… do they really consider ec or major preparation?

Has anybody made, or considered making an OFFICIAL UC acceptance/rejection thread for the following years’ applicants? Because there’s NO way they’ll be able to sift through this stuff!
Any thoughts? I can make one if nobody else wants to?!

@jeffjenks
I had already made the official UCLA thread

Hey everyone! I have a question that maybe some of you can help me answer. About three weeks ago, I updated my application because I forgot to list that I took a class at a different school last summer. I updated it via the update page on UCLAs website. Yesterday, I was admitted, but I was never given confirmation that they got my update. I’m definitely going to call them on Monday to confirm, but what do you guys think? Do you think they got my update?

Admitted!
3.5 Pre-Math/Econ from UCR.
All prereqs done, a few volunteer groups, and tons of work experience. I thought my GPA was super low to be admitted into UCLA, but this was a good surpise!

accepted!
3.84 bio
submitting my SIR soon!

@Kay,

Can you please post the link?

Can someone please tell me what this means:

We have received your application for Fall Quarter 2013 and are still in the process of reviewing it. There are still applicants for whom decisions have not yet been finalized. Please continue to check back.

^ It means exactly what it says. They released about 80% of decisions on Friday. They are still reviewing applications.

@oceanpartier

wow~~~~ i am a little bit scared, because i am not very good with molecular stuff i.e. genetics and dna. maybe because i was taking 3 science classes all at one time.(physic, chem, bio) you mean detail like in what sense. ie. they test you stuff the professor didnt go over but in the book? Can you give examples? also what is the pace of classes? lol. thx!!! very appreciated.

Congrats to all of you who got into UCLA!!!.
I got accepted to UCLA, but for spring semester, I will have one C grade or two C for my major requested class… What should I do now? will I get rejected after I file my grade?? GOSHHH. I am so worried!!! Please help! Thanks.

@summerhope13 wait, UCLA gave admissions for the Spring? UCLA runs on the quarter system so they gave you admission to Spring quarter…or Winter quarter?

^ I think summerhope13 is saying that she got accepted to UCLA but might get 1 or 2 Cs for her major pre-requisite classes for her spring semester.

@summerhope13 In UCLA’s general academic contract, they said to contact them immediately if you get 2 Cs or even 1 C in a major prerequisite class. Try to get your grades up to at least a B/B- before your semester ends or I think you may get rescinded. Try talking to your professors too about your situation. I’m in a similar situation like yours - I’m worried that I might get a C in my calculus class by the end of the quarter. My Calculus 2 professor told everyone in the beginning of the quarter to talk to him in advance if they got accepted to a certain university and need a certain grade in order to not get rescinded. I think it’s definitely worth a shot to discuss your situation with your professor(s).
