UCONN Class of 2023

I have not got my decision from University of Connecticut yet. I have visited the student center to see the application status but it says “Your application was completed on January 25, 2019. It is important for you to check your application status frequently. Your admission decision will be posted here when it is available.” Is there anyone who has not yet received the decision? Am I denied?

@TOAOMC My D applied to UConn in mid-October and just received her decision on Friday. Your late submission is probably why you haven’t heard back yet.

@jdcollegedad it brings back a lot of memories. I did EE in late 80s too. BJP circuits, assembler. Wow. It was hard but I got thru it. And to be honest u feel a sense of accomplishment, not that other majors don’t, but it was a group of kids that just toughed thru it. When I did my MBA, It felt so much easier. I actually told my son he should look at a minor of data analytics as well. Interesting stuff.

History Major
1500 SAT
95 weighted GPA
Honors and AP
Class VP
Accepted - Honors program. Got $18.5k per year.
OOS (NY).
Have yet to hear back about Special Program in Law.
Also, those saying merit is only for people in top 10%, that’s not true. I was second decile. @beachmama1 @our4kds

@HSinLI my honors invite was in the same letter as the scholarship amount.

@HSinLI You are absolutely right that finishing an EE degree was a right of passage and accomplishment. I also did an MBA and the work so much easier in comparison. It was weird sitting in the finance classes and loving what I was studying. Data analytics and artificial intelligence are such great fields to be in now. That was great advice to him!

ME TOO! Mine says I didn’t finish my application until January 29th, so mine is even later than yours. You’re fine. Good luck!

Letter finally came today, accepted for Storrs for Engineering. In-state, Academic Excellence Scholarship $7500. (no honors), 1420 SAT (790 math), 32 ACT, in top 10% of class in a not highly regarded public school. ApChem -5, AP-physics and AP Comp Sci -4.

My daughters application was completed January 29th. Still no word for us either. Congrats to those that have been accepted!

@jdcollegedad Yes!! I am sure it is a part of your life you will never forget. The late nights and forever studying! You made it through and that alone is something your children will think of when they start college. Start digging up some of your stories because they need it for support. I experience the late sleepless nights along with my son after I get off the phone with him I am so wired and think oh my god what he is going through! I remember this time of waiting for the acceptances and how stressful but it is nothing compared to what lies ahead and I thought this part was bad.

I am in the top 10% of my class but on the lower end with a SAT score of 1240. I received no merit which was disappointing. I don’t think Uconn puts rank into as high of a stature as we were expecting

  • Same thing happened to us. The deadline was January 15th. D’s portal said app was complete on Feb 13th. I called UConn today and they confirmed that they did not receive D’s transcript until Jan 31st, when mid-yr grades were sent. GC still maintains that they sent it in Dec, but UConn says what they sent did not include the transcript. UConn says they are still reviewing apps submitted after deadline, on a space-available basis (aka we’re out of luck). GC plans to talk to her UConn contact on Wednesday, and is still hoping it’s still under review for RD, despite what I was told by UConn. Very frustrating.

tl;dr Call the admissions office.

@NursingMajor7689 I think they actually put rank higher than you might think. My DD had a 1300 SAT, but rank was not as high, and was not accepted.

UConn is very funny especially for in state, they are very score heavy, but they like the weighted GPA not necessarily for only rank but they want to see that you took AP and Honors more than anything. Especially for Engineering, All STEM majors and Nursing. I am not gonna lie its tough in Storrs and my son had very high stats. Working hard everyday and they often joke on his floor of Engineers that they are just trying to survive.

@mrs806. What Engg is your son doing, how was his freshman and sophomore years.

Viewed on portal 3/1 (admission decision only) and just received mail with scholarship:

Accepted mechanical engineering
OOS with UConn Award Scholarship ($15k renewable annually)
No Honors invite
3.81 w / 3.75 uw
610 R / 780 M
4 year varsity starter (same sport)
Light to moderate ECs (mostly volunteer work outside of school)
3 Dual enrollment
No APs (small boarding school with dual enrollment only)
4 Honors
2 recommendations (have no idea what they say)

Excited and grateful as UConn is #1 choice! Go Huskies!

got my letter in the mail today. fairfield county. no scholarship (or aid but idk if aid comes in the mail). uconn is not first choice so it’s ok

Anybody else not receive anything by mail but was accepted through the portal?

Letter in mail today. Fairfield county. DD #2 in class, 1560 SAT, leadership ECs , 4 year varsity sport. Presidential scholarship- in state. $14,000 per year plus honors Business school.

Just letting you know rank might have something to do with merit, but definitely not for me, and probably not for everyone. They can look at the competitiveness of my school and my grades and see that I am definitely not even close to the top ten percent, yet I still got a great scholarship. So for people applying in the future looking back at this thread, don’t worry if you’re not in the top 10%. I don’t think it’s a strict cut-off. It might make a difference that I’m oos, but idk
