Admitted Major
Undeclared (Letters and Science)
College of Letters and Science
His goal is to be a Mechanical Engineer. 1450 SAT, 3.8 GPA, 4.2 WGPA, 770 SAT II Math seven AP’s. (Euro, Physics, Chem, APUSH, Calc, Span, Lang) Do you have any idea how realistic a major change is at UCSB, especially one that impacted?
Thank you!
1260 SAT
3.8 Un Weighted
4.14 Weighted
Only 4APs
Lots of good ECs and her essays were very strong. We think those are what got her into the other UCs.
She expected this as UCSB was her reach. She was accepted to UCR, UC Merced, UCD, and UCSD. Still waiting on UCI.
1st Choice Major: Pre-Communications
2nd Choice Major: Undeclared Letters and Sciences
4.2 w gpa / 3.90 uw
32 ACT
1370 SAT
Acceptances: USD, U of San Francisco, U of the Pacific, U of Arizona
Waitlisted: Cal Poly SLO, UCSB
Still Waiting on: USC, UCLA, UCB, UCI
Hopefully will be able to get on off of the waitlist. Thinking about submitting an appeal but honestly not even sure where to start with that. Congrats to everyone accepted!
@Mauifletch: I do not have any statistical information on how difficult it is to change from Undeclared to ME, so he might want to reach out to the department to get an idea if it is worth pursuing.
This is what UCSB states on their website:
** Current UCSB students in a non-engineering major, as well as students wishing to change from one engineering major to another, are welcome to apply after the satisfactory completion of a pre-defined set of coursework (see below). However, due to the current demand for engineering majors, students are cautioned that it is a very competitive process and not all applicants will be able to change their majors due to limited space availability.**
Mechanical Engineering.
Before petitioning for a change of major to mechanical engineering, six (6) of the following core courses or their equivalents must be completed: Math 3A-B; Math 4A; Math 4B; Math 6A-B; Physics 1-2; ME 14-15 (at least one of the 6 courses must include ME 14 or ME 15). Acceptance into the major will be based on UC grade point averages, applicable courses completed, and space availability. The calculation of the minimum GPA will be based on all classes from this list completed at the time of petitioning. All students considering changing into Mechanical Engineering are required to meet with the ME Academic Advisor during their first year.
My recommendation is if he has a direct admit into ME at another school, to seriously consider that offer. For UCSB, he would have to decide which is more important, the Major or the School.
Accepted for CS
SAT 1270,
UW UC GPA 3.7ish,
W UC GPA 4.2ish,
took all honors and APs I could at my school,
got a not so good score for SAT II Math so didn’t report it
300+ hours of community service,
4 years of varsity basketball,
4 years of student gov’t (11th grade ASB treasurer, 12th grade ASB president),
URM,
few more i forgot off the top of my head… honestly my ECs and essays made all the difference in my application, no way i’d get admitted to CS with my SAT score.
@CollQs Which CCS program offered you (or your child) admission? I applied to both mathematics and computing (as required for that specific double-major) and received an acceptance only from computing at 4:43 PM PDT and null from math.
Still super stoked since I actually submitted my apps a bit late.
Yes, I was asking you in particular since nobody else responded. So you got your acceptance via regular email. My daughter has not received an email yet. I wonder what it means. By the way thank you for replying
Congrats to all accepted, and condolences who were not. UC schools are complete crapshoot these days! Many unbelievably talented kids not getting in, which makes my heart break.
Son accepted for Computer Science (applied CS everywhere)
SAT : 1530
Subject Tests: Physics (800); Math 2 (780)
Unweighted GPA: 4.0; Weighted GPA is 4.3 to 4.4 I think
Sr. Year Coursework: AP CS, AP Env Science, AP statistics, AB Calculus BC
Rejected at UW (CS), Waitlist for UC Davis and UCSD, Accepted at Cal Poly SLO (CS)
@Alfmoren I just found out that for CCS another way to check to your decision is through the application portal your daughter used to submit her application. Here’s mine (math is unknown, and computing an acceptance: https://postimg.cc/tZp328JV
