UCSB Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

Anyone get accepted today?

still pending…

I just visited UCSB. If anyone wants my feelings on it, feel free to PM me. I’m not going to share my feelings publicly so as to not diminish the school in anyone’s eye against their wishes. My experience is merely my own. I highly encourage everyone to visit the campuses they’re interested it. It’s more crucial than I ever thought.

@Cheolf if you don’t mind I am going to follow your lead and offer people the my experience with UCSB as well. I lived In Isla Vista for a year and a half (moved back home in January) while attending SBCC. I spent a some time on UCSB’s campus and I am familiar with the area so if anyone has questions I am more than willing to share.

Accepted! To help anyone still waiting, I applied to the College of Letters and Science as an Environmental Studies major. I have a 3.92 GPA and I don’t believe I completed all of the pre-requisite courses.

@Cheolf @errorthirtyseven I would like to know your experiences, and also anyone else who visited please.

Hey everyone! I was on these forums when I was transferring and thought I’d pay it forward. I transferred to the College of Engineering fall 2015 as a Mechanical Engineering major so i’m currently starting my third quarter here. If you’re unsure about going here, want to know how the COE is, class rigor or even if you’re not an engineering major and want to know how things are, just ask and I’d be glad to help!

@ShuttlepilotND So nice!! I have one question, I want an apartment for sure, but should I get a school apartment, or an apartment in IV? I found a place in Del Playa, but I don’t know if I should jump into that and just go with a school apartment and have them pair me up with a roommate :l

@nidalee My significant other goes up to UCSB so I visit there quite often, staying in the dorms. I’ve had amazing experiences every time I’ve went for the past few months. However, I haven’t sat in on any lectures and things so I’ve had no personal experience with academics.

Surrounding Area: Isla Vista’s a charming little community with some nice shops and restaurants. However, if you like food like sushi or KBBQ you’d need to drive a few minutes out to Goleta or State Street in downtown Santa Barbara. It’s mainly just pizza, burgers, with some Asian food at places like Hana Kitchen.

And not to mention it’s absolutely gorgeous out there–the campus, the beach, the sunrise and the sunset… I love the scenery out there.

Now to living. I’ve only lived in one of the dorms, San Nicolas, and it was nice. The people were great, though, that changes with everybody’s individual experience. However, the main complain I have is that the showers in the men’s bathroom were always freezing.

If you’ve got any other questions, ask away.

Nice username by the way, haha.

Accepted.

Is Anyone planning on attending the Sping Insight April 9th ??? I’ll be there !!! It will be my first time seeing the campus. Will make or break my decision as to where I decided to attend school.

Did anyone get accept to UCSB with engineering major or still pending? Thank you.

@Panorama14 same here! I’m not a morning person, and I’m leaving my house at 5am to get there around starting time, so it better be good lol (I’m driving down from the Bay Area).

I really want to attend Spring Insight, but it would such a hassle to go from LA to SB since I don’t own a car :frowning: I might just have to wait until Gaucho Transfer Friday in May to see the campus.

@bobaloverr Its really up to you tho I hear that apartments in IV are hard to come by. One of my roommates wants to live in IV and secured her lease in January because spots fill up so fast :open_mouth: If you found a place on DP and you have a few people who you want to live with then by all means! When I transferred, I had heard of the whole party scene and being an engineering major I didnt want anything to distract me so I opted to live in the new Sierra Madre Apartments, which is a mile from IV. It was a great choice, 4 people, two rooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, balcony, rec center, gym, food market, laundry facilities and beautiful scenery. I was also paired with a great roommate. You fill out a questionnaire and when you go to choose your room you can see their answers to the same questionnaire and see if you’d like to live with them. Heads up, if you’re worried about the party scene it’s not all that they make it up to be. Thats not to say that there isnt any partying in IV, it just seems very normal and not as crazy as people had made it out to be. They are really regulating it this year and it hasn’t been crazy.

@CATransfer2016 im also driving 3 1/2 hours lol . Im leaving at 5 as well. Im coming from the high desert … Barstow,Ca (heading towards vegas) but have a safe trip man !

@ShuttlepilotND how are you doing in your Mech. Eng. classes? Are they really hard? I am also a ME major and was wondering how rigorous they were. Also, are you going to be able to graduate in 2 years? I’ve heard many engineering transfers have to take one or two extra quarters to be able to finish up all of their courses.

I have a final the morning of Spring Insight, so I’m hoping to get it done asap and then make the 2 hour drive from LA to SB.

Hope to see you all there! Last time I visited the campus it was raining pretty hard, but that still didn’t stop people from biking around.

I love the bikes to be honest. I remember being fascinated by them as a kid. UCSB is my mom’s alma mater, so she’s really excited to show me around again.

My friend got into both UCR and UCSB and UCR is giving her $5,000 more in UCR grants than UCSB grants. How can there be such a discrepancy? How do schools determine how much they intend on giving someone in grants?

@Philosoup UCR is known for giving good financial aid, and also they may ahve offered her more as an incentive for her to choose UCR over other schools she might’ve been admitted to
