UCSB Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

I tagged and I am still pending. Anyone else?

lucky and thanks for the positive vibes! :)>-

How are people seeing their financial aid package? I was admitted on the 23rd but I still haven’t received any info on my aid…

@mike2011 Did you SIR? I did and they gave me an unofficial award letter.

Thanks so much @topchoiceschool !
And no not yet @Philosoup have you gotten yours?

@Mike2011 I was admitted on the 22nd and haven’t SIR but I was still able to see my unofficial award letter. They sent me an email that it was up yesterday but even before the email I was able to access it

@fightonRT
Hey
I basically have the same GPA for the same major. I think you will get in. I just got accepted.

Also do you know if we declare our major one we transfer?

Still pending. Here are my stats. Anyone similar?

Major: Pre-Econ and Acc
GPA: 3.32 (3.38?)
IGETC: By end of Spring.
TAG: No.
PRE-REQ: Had all of them done in fall 2015 except for Accounting 2 which I took in winter and it concluded on Feburary 11. Updated TAU and inputed the grade that I got ( An A hence 3.38 at top with question mark). Already had english requirement done before fall and took my last Calculus class in fall and got a B. My major GPA is a 3.48

ecs:Yea, a law office I interned at and a Government office.

extra concerns: Since I updated in mid Feb with my last Accounting class (pre-req), I know that UCSB may or may not weight that into my GPA but will they acknowledge that I at least passed the class and would that improve my chances?

Anyways just commenting because im still pending and I am scared. Though I have been admitted to UCSC.

@BlackPlasma So the accounting class you updated in feb, was that not part of your Transfer Academic Update (TAU)? If it was not completed by the time you submitted that, the class will not factor into your gpa. If at the time you marked it as in progress, then not having it completed will not disqualify you, they will assume you will have it completed by Fall 2016.

@errorthirtyseven By the time I first did the TUA (Before deadline) that accounting class was in it as IP. I went back in mid feb to change from IP to an A.

@BlackPlasma So I cannot say for sure because I did not even know you could do that (change a class after the TAU) but my best guess is that they will ignore it. We have to operate under the assumption that they look at applications the day after TAU deadline, so 1 Feb, or else the deadline kind of serves no purpose. That being said there is a decent chance they don’t look at apps on 1 Feb or there is no system in place to cut off any additional information submitted after the deadline and before they actually look at your application. TL;DR assume they did not factor in your class but there might be maybe 35% chance that they did.

@BlackPlasma I was accepted to the major you applied to with a very similar GPA. However, all my low grades are from the late 1990s and everything from the past 2 years is a 4.0.

I’m pending for Business Econ at UCSC. Is that the major you were accepted to there? I’m missing the computer literacy requirements there so I feel like I shouldn’t expect to get in.

@yakattak No I got accepted as regular Econ, I looked up the business econ major and I have completed all the pre-reqs they have on assist, I don’t have the computer literacy requirement. Though other than comp literacy requirement, not much different from regular Econ.

@BlackPlasma I suppose I should have picked the major I applied to at UCSC more wisely in that case. Coming out of the Army 2 years ago I applied to UNLV and got denied. With that slap in the face I figured that I should do my best in CC and shoot for a CSU, so I followed the AS-T in business admin pattern at my school and made the correct decision to take an applied calculus class that was optional. I applied to several UCs on a lark and it just so happened that I met all the pre reqs for UCSB and made it in. I feel very…fortunate.

@yakattak lol dude I’m in Vegas right now visiting family. I actually went to my first few years at high school in Vegas before I moved back to LA. Dude, UCSB is leagues above UNLV!

You have the potential to go somewhere waaaaay better! Here in Vegas is depressing if your not into gambling or clubbing.

XD

Vegas is kind of a dump, I agree. UNLV did me a solid by rejecting me.

@BlackPlasma i’m still pending same major. 3.92

@“Darth Cornholio” I’ve noticed that UCSB is really anal about having ALL of your prereqs done at the time of application

@LopApo I’ll PM you

@UCMtoUCSBHopeful I’m not sure, tho when I was filling out my housing application it did give me the option of on campus dorms. Usually underclassmen live on campus because freshmen have to live on campus for the first year. Transfers usually would live in the apartments. Its not bad at all, there are many options in terms of off campus apartments. I live in the new Sierra Madre apartments and its supposed to be the furthest from campus and its only 2.5 miles from campus but there is a new bus stop in front of the apartments thats very convenient. We get free bus stickers so you can ride any bus to campus and they take maybe 10 minutes to and from and they run every 9-15 minutes. The apartments come furnished and even have a kitchen, so its a great option. Also if you know someone who is also transferring you can both room together with their roommate pull in program.

@ShuttlepilotND Which campus apartment (owned my school) do you think is the closest? I honestly think that’s my only problem debating whether I want to find an apartment in IV or just get an apartment with the school. I have a disability and I can’t walk/ride bike for too long. + I’m not a fan of being in buses, I like walking distances. :-/
