UCSB Fall 2017 Transfer Thread

I was admitted to UCSB for Chemical Engineering about a week and a half after they received my appeal!!

My appeal was accepted too!

Congrats @ucbound77! What was your appeal reasining, if I might ask.

Thank you @Ohm888 ! I was told by the admissions office that I was rejected was because my physics series wasn’t equivalent (California resident transferring from an 4 year OOS Uni). I spoke with a lady in the Engineering Admissions regarding it and she said that according to the Engineering department it was equivalent. So essentially I appealed on that basis. I included the course syllabi and 2 LOR.

^^ good job!

Thank you!

okay guys pretty excited we’ll be on campus by the shiny beach in 4 months. Where are you guys planning to live? ISLA VISTA? or what

Does UCSB accept sophomore transfers of applicants who were eligible for admission as freshman?

bro you gotta ask those important questions directly to ucsb
if people say yeah or no are you just gonna believe that? lol

For people who completed their housing application on time (I didn’t because my info didn’t get into the system till today but I called and they told me to finish it up anyways) have you gotten anything other than a confirmation email and what did your email say?

I did my housing app on time and I still haven’t gotten anything other than a confirmation email.
They told me we should be getting them by June 16, but I feel like they’ll probably take longer.

Supposedly, today is when you’re supposed to hear back from UCSB about housing contracts; however, I haven’t gotten anything.

Also, has anyone heard anything back about the honors program at UCSB? I called them back in may and they said June 1st but I called them on June 2nd and all they said was “sometime in June.”

@ccstudent1517 yeah wt.f I havent got anything either

@ccstudent1517 just called ucsb housing and they said they just sent everything and you’ll get your contracts by 4pm

I just checked and got the email with instructions to complete housing

Thanks for checking @JustgotintoUCSB and @blasbcptransfer! Got mine right now. Apparently all of the residence halls are full except for Tropicana Del Norte. Where are you guys planning on living?

@ccstudent1517 where does it say dorms are full except for TDN? i think i submitted my app for san rafael

It said in my email (I can post a screenshot if you want):

“The residence halls are completely full so even if you marked a residence hall space as your first choice, we are offering you an apartment contract. If you are solely interested in residence halls, the privately managed Tropicana Del Norte residence hall still has space.”

I think UCSB does a lottery system for housing so I probably didn’t get chosen to be put in a residence hall and instead was offered an apartment space. If you got chosen for a residence hall then you probably didn’t get this part of the email.

@ccstudent1517 I see mine says:

“We are excited to share that all students that applied for housing by the June 10th deadline have been offered university-owned housing. Based on your preferences we are offering you a residence hall contract. (The residence halls are very full so we are only offering a handful of new Transfers this opportunity.)”

I guess i got the space for sure then

I go to UCSB so I may seem biased, but my friends that went to UCSD thought it might be similar to my school but their life seems really sad and boring to me, compared to my life at UCSB lol(that sounds bad but I’m just being honest). I love everything about UCSB and I personally think its a more “college-y” experience, cuz theres a lot of unity/a big active community, it’s absolutely beautiful, the academics are pretty much the same or maybe even slightly better than UCSD in some ways(it was ranked above UCSD this year). I almost didnt go to UCSB but choosing to go was definitely the best decision I’ve made in my life. I highly recommend it
