Ok after reading that 70% of applicants already heard back I’m kinda worried, like do they send out the rejections in the next couple batches?
nope it’s random
I’m really worried now too
do you guys have TAG? If so, then there is no need to be worried as long as you met the requirements. Even if you don’t have TAG, the acceptances are random
I had tag until I revoked it with a C in ochem
do you mind telling me your stats? I tried searching up the acceptance rates on https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major for your major but apparently your major isn’t listed on there @biochembbs9
I had a 3.49 I got a C in ochem and dropped to 3.19 and then I took stats over winter and got an A and did my TAU which got me to a 3.23-6? Idr
Anyways
I have IGTEC done, all my pre reqs done but ochem pt 2(which ochem really isn’t a pre req either most people transfer without it)
& my major should be under pre-chem or pre-bio there because they don’t let you go straight into biochemistry until you take their pre reqs at sb
For EC: I’m a tutor, volunteered at a hospital for two years, in a few CC clubs -basic stuff
@christinesoh Are you talking about your pre-requisites for your alt major (Anthropology)? What’s your main major? If you have all the prerequisites complete for your main major (Check ASSIST.org) then I wouldn’t be worried about the alt major. Additionally, I am not sure if UCLA will automatically reject someone for not completing their all their major pre-reqs, but assist.org does say this for UCLA: “You should complete as many preparation courses as possible prior to transfer, based on the availability of courses.” For UCSB, they seem a bit more strict on prerequisites: “Transfer students are strongly advised to complete as many major preparatory courses as possible prior to enrolling at UCSB.”
I looked at the transfer stats over the last couple of years for chem and bio major and while the admit range usually hovers around 3.3-3.75, the lower percentile enroll rate for both majors has always been around 3.2-3.3. So while the lower percentile range of people around 3.3 get in (which you would still be competitive for), a lot of people around the 3.2-3.3 range end up enrolling at UCI.
Overall, I think you should be fine especially considering you essentially have your pre-reqs done and your IGETC is completed. If your PIQ’s are any compelling, I’d say you’d probably get in.
At this point it’s just a waiting game so there’s no need to worry, try and distract yourself :)>-

@Shagunbali I have applied as an anthropology major because my transfer counselor said I have a better chance wi th my alt. major than applying with my main major, Psychology since the GPA requirement is really high for Psychology. He said it’s nearly impossible to get admitted with Psychology with my GPA… kind of blunt but it’s true if I think about it since my GPA is unfortunately only 3.2
For UCLA I only have one prerequisite left and for UCSB I am finishing the last prereq. course this spring.
@choukevin thank you so much! I’ll update you on what happens and where I end up going at least I have ucr as a safety school. Anyways, for my essay portion I just tried being honest and humble and didn’t really try to impress or lie my way through it. I talked about how I realized what I want my career to be and what’s gotten me here
Also a first gen UNI student
(I mean my mom has an AA. Does that count for anything ?)
That’s great if you were honest and humble in your essays. It’s always a good idea to be genuine in your essays because it can definitely be sensed by a reader if you know what I mean. A lot of times people will tend to inflate themselves up in their PIQs without even knowing it which will not help their chances.
It should help if you are a first gen university student, but I don’t know how much that will play into their decision.
I would give you my admissions if I could, but the best of luck to you and keep me updated! :-bd
@biochembbs9 Omg I’m also a biochem major and my gpa is pretty much the same as yours (3.27)! I have my pre reqs done but I still have 1 more class to complete IGETC. I’m also a tutor as well! Hahah good luck to you!! I hope we both get in
@ericbadmon Yes, TAP certified only applies to UCLA and Irvine. But I just thought that being in the honors program at my school would look good to the other schools as well. The good news is that the only reason I didn’t get accepted to UCSB was because of the math class being taken the spring prior to transfer. Hopefully there’s hope for Irvine, San Diego, and Ucla (they will also review my application for my alternative major, gender studies due to being TAP certified)
@HannaBrooks2 omg yay!! Where else did you apply ?! If we both end up going there we could study together and ace our classes together LOL
@Flurkz TAP does not apply to Irvine, do you mean TAG?
@Skepta Where did you read that 70% of applicants have already heard back?
@biochembbs9 hahahahaha I applied to UCSB, UCI, UCSC, UCR, UCLA, and UCD…I already got my tag accepted to UC Davis tho What about you?
@choukevin No I do not mean TAG. My school told me that along with UCLA, they have a “verbal” agreement with UC Irvine if you are TAP certified that your application will be prioritized.
@choukevin 3.61 is severely below the ~3.8 Q1 / 25th percentile for econ. I’m not saying it hasn’t been done, but it’s uncommon. At this GPA, you can’t get in without TAP.
