UCSB Fall 2018 Transfer Thread (Including TAG)

I have a question. I got a accepted to ucsb but I don’t know if I got accepted via tag or regular admission, although it doesn’t really matter since I got in. But as far as I’m concerned, tag states that I need to maintain a 3.2 through the end of this spring 2018 semester, but on my admissions that ucsb sent me, they said conditions of the guarantee is that you maintain at least a 3.0. I don’t know which gpa is the truth now please can someone help me understand

Trying to get a group together or maybe two

I got almost $24k in scholarship and grant money. But they’re saying I still need $10K.

Definitely need to wait and see what the other UCs say or if it’s the same for all.

@goodBrujo9 Mine was about the same. But if you look about 5-6k is for “Personal expenses like medical care etc.”. So in reality, the cost of tuition and room and board would be around 3-4k per year.

@SmartJarhead I overlooked that. You’re right. They also offered $3000 in work study. So that would offset the balance as well if i opted to do that. Plus, I think I would apply for more scholarships.

Davis sent me a Regents invite for $7500. If I actually got that along with a similar aid package, I could go there for basically free. Without needing personal loans.

Are you seriously considering them?

@goodBrujo9 I haven’t heard from anywhere else yet so I can’t say that for sure. UCSB is kinda my backup school. For me its roughly 4k a year and I could pay that working part-time during the school year and full time in the summer so I’m super happy. I wasn’t expecting it to be this cheap.

@SmartJarhead I never considered working part time during school. I always worried it would cause my GPA to suffer but once I’m transferred I guess that won’t matter anymore. Lol. My plan is to transfer somewhere I can also do my Masters. I think it will be quicker. I wonder how easy it would be to find a PT gig in sB.

@goodBrujo9 I imagine it would be pretty easy to find a job on or around campus. And I work now and it doesn’t interfere with school too much.

@goodBrujo9 I think that $10K might be the money that you’d need for housing and food.

@rkhayd Nope, it breaks things down into categories. Room and board is the same thing as “housing and food”, and that’s separate from tuition, books, transportation, and personal expenses. If you only count tuition and room and board it comes out to about 3-4k (for me). I’m only using those 2 categories because every school gives a different estimate on books, transportation, and personal expenses. So I feel like its more accurate to judge the cost by just the tuition and room and board because all other aspects are really dependent on you and remain relatively constant regardless of school.

Here is my financial aid breakdown:

Total UCSB Cost Estimate: $33,816
Tuition and Fees: $14,472
Housing and Meals: $11,943
Books and Supplies: $1,158
Transportation: $864
Other Education Costs: $5,379
(Includes Health Care, Personal Expenses, Phone Expenses, and Loan Fees)

Minus Unofficial Grants and Scholarships: -$23,616

Equals Unofficial Net Cost= $10,200

As you can see, the true cost of tuition, fees, housing, and meals comes out to: $2,799.

The rest is estimated towards books, transportation, and personal costs. I would exclude those when considering other schools because each school will give you a different estimate. I know I don’t spend 1k on books, I rent them and probably spend less than $500 per year. Also, with most of my food paid for, my living and transportation expenses shouldn’t be so high.

@SmartJarhead I replied to him without seeing your replies, but you’re totally right. Their breakdown confused me a bit. It’s kind of sad that SB only gave me $1.7k while Riverside gave me almost $9k. Let’s hope that Davis gives me a decent amount of grant money.

@rkhayd Wow that’s barely anything. Hopefully the other schools give you more as well. Based on the financial aid calculators (which was accurate for SB), the other UC’s will be much more expensive for me.

@SmartJarhead That’s just the university grant. If I include Pell and Cal grant, I have more than enough to cover my tuition plus housing/food. I also have GI Bill on top of that, but I’d rather save my remaining months for grad school.

@rkhayd Oh wow that’s awesome! Whats your number 1 school choice?

how long does it take to get the official email and mail package? i got accepted last week and still haven’t got anything

@SmartJarhead Davis is my number one school, but if I don’t get in there it’s gonna be a battle between Riverside and Pomona/SLO. Thankfully I tagged into Davis.

@SmartJarhead you get free food so I’m living with you when we transfer lol. My top 3 are USC UCLA and Davis.

@mavsp1 I got accepted on the 20th and received my package last week.

Hey guys, quick question about conditions of admission. I got accepted, and it says:

Because your admission has been based on the information you reported in your University of California application, we expect that you will do the following:

Maintain at least an overall GPA of 3.0. Complete all courses indicated as “in progress” or “planned” with no grade lower than a “C.” If you earn any grade below “C,” notify the Office of Admissions immediately

Does this mean I need a 3.0 or higher GPA in my last Spring Quarter? Or do they mean I just need to keep my overall (entire community college career) GPA above a 3.0. I currently have a 3.75 GPA, but Spring quarter I am taking a few difficult classes. I am sure I will pass them and perhaps score all B’s or even A’s, but in the worst case scenario that I get 3 C’s, for example, will I be rescinded? (My overall GPA with 3 C’s will still be a 3.5ish GPA).
