Hey everybody, here’s some preface to my comment:
I’m a cc student at Moorpark college, looking to transfer to ucsb to do chemical engineering. I’m hoping to work my way into their 5 year bachelor/master program. I have a 3.66 due to screwing around my first couple years when I was 19 (7 years ago now, yikes). This gave me some C’s and a bunch of W’s. Some of these grades came from outside the country (Canada), and the UC system only asked for proof of those grades maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago. If I factor out those beginning years, I have a 3.88, and there is a clear upward trajectory in my performance from a point in time when I realized I was being an idiot (which I tried to speak to in my essays, somewhat). I’ve taken all of the required and prep classes that are offered outside of the “intro to chem eng” class, and have generally gotten As in all save from a few B’s. I’ve been a tutor for the school, I was a supplemental instructor for the school (basically a ta-lite), I volunteer tutor, and have an internship. I’ve basically done everything I can think of to outshine my past, whilst on a pretty tight budget.
My question:
Am I being stupid for freaking out that I’m still on pending or should I be more confident in my application? Or should I be freaking out? Is it just that I need to give them more time to deal with my Canadian grades? I have a friend who just got accepted for the same degree, with a 3.6something (I think it was 3.62) and he has less of the prep classes than me, but he is significantly younger (20). Does age factor into their decision at all? And also, at what time of the day do they generally release application notifications? I feel like an idiot checking my account like 10 times a day, not knowing when they might release.
I’m way too anxious about this, can’t wait to get this over with.

@lovela did you get accepted in one of the previous batches? (I’m trying to see if only previously accepted students got the email)
@ebonylmocanu i was accepted in the second batch (4/1)! i think it is only for previously accepted students because the email states “the app is a closed group for current and newly admitted students.” hope that helped!!

@Stratash1030 Hi! I’m a non-traditional student (going on 25) as well and have plenty of W’s (12) with a 3.4 GPA. I got in for prebio, my best advice is to call them and ask about your application. The applications come out in batches and I believe someone on this thread mentioned the date for the 3rd batch. I wouldn’t worry so much about the age or the W’s. I had little questions and I called! They are very helpful!

What is this financial aid page you guys are talking about? Can we log in to see if ucsb has received our fafsa?
@AGGIES17 we were talking about the financial aid link on your UCSB admission portal and whether if you click on it it says fafsa processed/received and a green checkmark or a red x saying that no info is available at this time.

Don’t ask me why would I get admitted…We all know it’s only 9% admit rate for 2017CS, maybe it rise for 2018?
Maybe it’s because I completed some extra CS courses besides the requirement? (Java, Linux? But it’s not transferable)
Or maybe they just like my Chinglish essay? Just kiddin’

I am a Chinese student, and I attended an university in China before which I mentioned in my essay because it is one of the top universities in China. However, I wasn’t interested in my major there(Architecture Design), so I quit the school and sought for a chance to study in the U.S…
When I was preparing my applicant here, I didn’t realize my grades at my previous university might be a factor here until they asked the transcript from my university in China(bad grades). So I am also worry about it like you.
My GPA in CC is around 3.82, major in Econ, and those courses I took in China were all about designing. I don’t think they are even transferable.
Anxious like you, and I also check portal like 10+ times a day lol.
@Yiiiiiii Well at least it is comforting to know somebody else is in the same position as I am. Definitely post if you get the acceptance on Monday! I will as well.
