UCSB Fall 2018 Transfer Thread (Including TAG)

@Jestrada waitlisted with a 4.0 and all requirements met is harsh.

@Ohm888 I concur. but I know others who had a 4.0 as well and were rejected. its never a safe bet with UC’s.

Does anyone know if it’s possible/ how hard it is to change major from something like biochem to computer science? When I applied I had a feeling I’d go to med school but over the last couple of months I’m realizing I’d rather go into healthcare through data science or comp science of some sort.

@Ohm888
What is your major, please?
That is devastating, you might want to appeal.

@Jestrada that could mean that you’re way too overqualified for UCSB, so it might be a good thing actually. I had friends last year who got waitlisted to UCD/UCSB, but got into UCB and UCLA for more impacted majors. Keep you head up! :slight_smile:

thanks for the kind words @Lesbehonest. I was obviously surprised when I saw the status but I’m ok with it. I did apply to ucb, uci, ucr, and ucla as well. I already got into my back up school so it’s all good.

I was an applied mathematics major @hoppy1

ADMITTED SOMETIME TODAY
major: political science
gpa: 3.85

@Jestrada
I am sorry I meant you not Ohm888.
UCs are unpredictable, but I thought they put heavy weight on GPA especially for transfers.

I have to assume they thought you were overqualified.

This happened to a lot of high school seniors who applied for mid-tier UCs this year.

NO ONE is overqualified for UCSB or any UC for that matter. Geez, UCSB is one of the best public schools in the world.

Just got in with a 3.6.
2.2 my first semester
4.0 the last two

(uncle was murdered so I was depressed, leading to 2.2)

Congrats to anyone else!

Still pending 8-|

Got in with a 3.2!! Idk how tho tbh, I guess they liked how much I worked and volunteered. I’m currently completing my general courses done by this spring as well as stats! Sociology major heard last night. Good luck to everyone!

Accepted to UCSB , CSUCI waitlisted to CSULB Denied from Cal Poly Slo

@Lesbehonest and @hoppy1 you guys are right, I was told uc Santa Barbara doesn’t like to accept super good students that will likely get accepted to UCLA and UCB because it affects their rankings once those students reject admission and go somewhere else. So @Jestrada this is probably why they didn’t accept you.

@Mitroyo @hoppy1 @Lesbehonest

I worked with admissions contacts from UCB and UCLA during the application process. Both said I’m a very strong candidate for acceptance to their schools AND I was accepted to UCSB.

Major: Communication
GPA: 4.0
Honors Program
Chapter VP of Phi Theta Kappa
IGETC: Finishing statistics this spring
Will transfer with AA-T
Worked nearly 8 weeks on my Insight Questions
Self-taught programmer
Held management positions at Intel Corp. and Apple Inc.
Co-founded a tech startup
Youth basketball coach
Volunteer at Loaves and Fishes, and Weave.

Accepted: UCSB, Cal Poly SLO, CSUN, CSUS, CSULA,
Waiting on: UCB, UCLA, UCD

BTW - I’m speaking at commencement.

What do people who get rejected from UCLA get to say? “I was rejected from UCLA because admissions thought I was overqualified and will probably get into Berkley.”

@DanielLB you definitely have a strong application and I think you will get accepted to all the schools you applied too. I’m not trying to speak down on ucsb at all, like you said it is one of the best public universities in the world. However, I do think they reject students whom they think will end up attending other schools like ucla/ucb because it affects its rankings if those students don’t enroll. I have many friends who were rejected from ucsb yet they were still accepted to ucla/ucb. I think they do this for STEM majors. But I might be totally wrong who knows. By the way, I was admitted to ucsb so its not like I’m trying to make myself feel better or something lol.

@DanielLB thanks for your insightful post. I swear some people missed their calling as contortionists all this angling to figure out waitlists or rejections. I am curious as to which school is your first choice?

Fellow UC hopefuls, sometimes it just doesn’t work out. That’s all it is. It’s life. You will end up where you should be in the end. Stop wasting time and energy stressing over things out of your control. It’s bad for your health.

I was accepted to SB with a 3.94 GPA. I would hope UCLA, Davis, and Berkeley all give my application equal consideration.

@DanielLB Ofcourse…congratulations lol. I don’t think we’re trying to say every 4.0 gets denied, just some of them.

@goodBrujo9

Yes…this: “Fellow UC hopefuls, sometimes it just doesn’t work out. That’s all it is. It’s life. You will end up where you should be in the end.”

After visiting all UC campuses, Davis felt like home and is my first choice, followed by: UCLA, UCSB, then UCB. However, UCSB is offering me a full ride, so that complicates things a bit.

Best of luck in the coming weeks!

@Lesbehonest Thank you! Yes, I know you’re not saying that every 4.0 gets denied. You’re saying that UCSB rejects top applicants because they can get into UCLA or Berkley. I highly doubt UCSB looks at an application and says, “this guy is way too smart to go to school here.” Seriously, what’s an overqualified student?
