My letter doesnt mention housing, is it under a tab?
@TatianaF it is in the same row as residency status, at the very top of the letter.
@Trashception I haven’t decided which UC I will attend. It’s a 3 to 6 month waiting list for family housing, so I applied even though I haven’t SIR’d yet. I’m still waiting to hear back from other UCs.
@Not2cool4school ah I see, I’m sure its an even more complicated process for family housing. Not gonna lie I’m glad I don’t have to deal with that extra stress. My 19 year old self wouldn’t be able to handle more stress ?
@Trashception It’s been insane. I have to figure out not only where I’m going to go, but figure out where the kids are going to school, how/when I register them, after school options and the cost of family health insurance. UCSB is winning right now because they offer priority registration for student parents (in order to schedule around child care) and their elementary school is across the street from family housing. Luckily my husband owns his business and can pretty much go where ever.
@Not2cool4school oh. my. goodness! That is insane, I commend you for being so organized with this stuff, I don’t even know where I would start. Congratulations so far! Having to worry about more than yourself while trying to get your education must be rough. Stay strong!
I just checked my financial aid, it says off campus housing. Hopefully thats something minor that can be changed
@ashyashy Hey, the Csu I attended was Dominguez Hills. They said it was based off the description they received from DH General education catalog. The rep. said the course description was to vague and it didn’t exactly seem like it correlated with many of the UC descriptions.
@TatianaF Mine does too even though I selected on campus. I’m guessing that will change once I submit a housing application and get a room.
@Not2cool4school Wow, well UCSB honestly sounds like a great place for your family then. I imagine it would help tremendously to have the kids in school so close to the campus and priority registration…If the other schools don’t have similar options, I would def choose UCSB in your situation.
@kristinpete Some of the other UCs have other student parents aid UCSB doesn’t offer. UCD has a childcare grant. UC Berkeley has a student parent grant that I was told by financial aid is $8K a year, disbursed monthly. So, we’ll see what happens with them later this month!
I got in on the first of April, but the financial aid was really underwhelming at UCSB. If I had known that they don’t award Regents to transfer students I probably wouldn’t have applied. It seems like a great school, with a lot of positives going for it, but I can’t justify the cost. Best of luck to all of you.
@GuzLuis2
ok thank you so much! last question, did they reach out to you and say that the class didnt neet uc requirements? or how did you find out? i didnt send the ucs any CSU general catalog ?? sorry thank u so much
Hey does anyone else financial aid offer say “off campus” for housing but you indicated on campus on fafsa?
@ashyashy
No problem, and I actually decided to participate in a one on one meeting with a UC Rep. in which they just look over your coursework to evaluate it and also how to start your first semester at a UC if you were to get in. I had done this previously in like November, and on that first meeting I had right off the bat the UC rep told me that the math course I took at my CSU would not transfer over. So I retook a statistics class all over again. However, I never heard anything about my English class not transferring over until yesterday when I went again for a second meeting. I didn’t send them the general catalog they themselves actually look it up and try to see if the course description matches their course description for the English class. My only hope was to basically just take the class and hope that it would all work out. I hope yours transfers over and you are not stuck in this dilemma like me. It really does suck since I basically thought everything was all good.
I received the admissions packet Monday and some Santa Barbara stickers today.
Anyone (girls) interested in finding an apartment or even a house to rent that’s close to campus but that isn’t necessarily campus housing? I was looking through the housing website and the cheapest room was almost $700 with two roommates… but renting a house would be around $500 each person and everyone would have their own room. I’m not entirely set on attending UCSB but housing will definitely help me make my decision.
@africangirl97 I’m interested and am on the same exact boat! I am not exactly set on going to UCSB and housing has been a worry of mine. I also am waiting to hear back from other UCs, but as of now, UCSB is one of my top schools
@africangirl97 Please put me on that list. We’re on the same boat.
@africangirl97 i’m interested! ucsb is my top choice as of right now & i’ve started browsing around for housing
