UCSB Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@kailaniiiiii The financial aid package took only like 4 days for me so you may get it by Friday but if not, I’d expect it early next week

How does rolling admission work? do they accept the “strongest” applicants first or is it just entirely random

@zotlover123

It is entirely random. I know a person who got accepted with a 3.2 gpa to UCR the 2nd day rolling decisions came out. I didn’t get accepted until 4 weeks later with a 4.0 gpa.

Congrats to everyone accepted!

Been lurking for a while, but I am wondering about this email I got today.

I was accepted last week and today I received an email inviting me to be a Mellon Humanities Fellow… has anyone else gotten that? They make it sound prestigious but I am unsure about it. Can’t find information of forums about it, they have a webpage saying that they only choose 100 entering students every year and the program (Engaging Humanities Learning Community) sounds cool online, but I am a bit unsure still. This could really make me decide to go to UCSB instead of the other UCs.

Does anyone know about it?

@capacapa I also recieved the invite. I know a Mellon Mays fellow from Cal, who I met through a transfer program, and he spoke highly of it. From what I could find, it seems like a great program at UCSB to building an engaging humanities community. The classes look interesting as well.

@Not2cool4school To be honest, UCSB was not my firs or second choice but this invitation is making me rethink it all. Are you planning on accepting the invitation?

@capacapa same. My top choices were Cal and UCD, because they’re much closer. This program is making me lean more towards UCSB. However, I can’t accept until/unless I get into family housing. I have a husband and kids and so its a bit harder to choose a school which will work for my family, not just me.

@Not2cool4school I hope everything ends up working great for you! Maybe I’ll see you at UCSB after all if we both decide. Good luck!

@africangirl97 how did you get offered the free hotel?

ugh im a tag student and i still havent heard back yet, getting kinda nervous!

Did anyone else who was accepted get an invitation to join the Mellon Humanities Fellowship?

@stressexpress yes, @capacapa and I did, see above #684 and #685.

@Not2cool4school Ah, I am not used to other humanities people commenting on these threads. I wanted to see if anyone knew any information about this program that I didn’t because a lot of what I researched about it was a very minimal amount of information. It’s very intriguing though. Definitely makes me like the prospect of going to UCSB a lot more.

@llaauurenn I’m not sure tbh… one of the transfer admissions counselors just emailed me

Did anyone apply Film Studies with TAG?

If anyone wants to meet up for the open house hmu! None of my friends got into UCSB and I’m wondering if it’s worth driving down from NorCal lol

@capacapa @stressexpress @Not2cool4school I also got the Mellon Humanities fellows email invite yesterday. There’s some information online, like that the program is being funded through a major grant, but I think it’s their first year doing it? Did anyone majoring in humanities/English not get the email?

I’m majoring in English and did not get the email. My gpa was probably on the lower end compared to everyone else invited.

I still haven’t gotten an acceptance/rejection from any of the 7 UC campuses I applied to… have other people not gotten responses yet ??

@capacapa @stressexpress @Not2cool4school I’m not trying to spam this thread but did you guys accept the invitation? I’m still waiting on other UC’s and though I’m assuming accepting the invite is non-binding, I’m not sure. It does say we have till June 1st to accept but also that the sooner you respond the more “choices” you’ll have for classes.
