UCSD Acceptance

You got denied with a 3.65?? Non-impacted major?

Ya sucks man.

was an economics major. should I call or something?

Woah. That’s crazy unless econ became impacted this year (which I doubt.) You can always call to find out why you got rejected.

Will they tell you?

As long as you don’t get a snooty admissions officer. They have it on record and they can tell you, but they’re probably too busy with other things over the next couple days to do so.

hmmm ill probably give it a shot. cant hurt. heard theyll reverse them on the spot sometimes so hopefully i can do that haha.

Oh where/ what is the number you call.

Wouldn’t it just be the admissions department?

I have submitted officially a report of academic changes. Then, I got an automatic reply saying “Please note that no decision can be made regarding whether the information you sent will affect your admission status until we have received your final official transcripts with all grades reported.”, but I won’t have the final transcript until late June. Does that mean I will not hear back from them before the SIR deadline?

what are the ranks of ucsds colleges?
i remember someone saying the sixth is the easiest?
can anyone tell me about the ranks please?
hardest to easiest.
thx

@grimes99 i know i am confused. i got accepted to ucla and cal and rejected from ucsd. i assumed the fact that i went to high school in san diego and that my sister is a senior at ucsd would have had some pull… they did ask if i went to a san diego area high school so i assumed that was used in determining admission? at least a tiny bit?

I talked with a UC Davis admissions counselor when I got denied. She said that TAG this year has made things a bit crazy for them. Apparently you could TAG at multiple schools - which is sort of good from the student perspective, because you’re not putting all your eggs in one basket, but it’s not ideal because the schools then are in a binding agreement to accept all those TAG students. But not all of them will attend the schools where they tagged.

Say you TAGGED at Davis, SD and Irvine. Then you get accepted at all three, well obviously you can’t attend all three, so your TAG-reserved spots at the schools you where don’t go are then freed up for other students.

My point being that I think the waitlist is probably an excellent thing, and you’re almost sure to get in.

@molecule1985 - Good to know. I got in at my #1 choice, so I’m not worried about it, but when I talked to UCLA they told me waitlisting was like a 10% chance. Maybe it depends on the school?

It would depend entirely on the schools yield. (Yield being the percent of admitted applicants who actually enroll).
UCLA, Cal, and ivy leagues have really high yields, but most other schools are well below 80%. That potentially means a 20% opening in seating after June 1st. Buuut they usually compensate by offering admission to more students than they have seating for because they know not all of them will take it.

TAG might well have messed the numbers up a lot though. That does sound like it’ll be good for us waitlisters.

accepted to UCSD does anyone know if I should switch my major before or after my SIR? That would be really, really helpful… thanks

@yowhatup

When did you find out you got accepted?

Yesterday, I think I actually checked the tag on my app but I was unaware I did… anyone know of the major change?

3.7 Poly Sci Major. Waitlisted…

3.5 GPA with TAG
Waitlist…

Yuck. Are you going to fill out the waitlist stuff or move on to another option?
