UCSD Acceptance

i got waitlisted for UCSD even though i have a 3.7 and did tag for comm major

@anacondrea. i beg to differ. uc’s know when you dont get into schools because lower schools like riverside and merced will send you emails says hey we’ll admit you!

They absolutely know what other UC schools you have applied to, it isn’t hard to make a database that can handle that.

@everyone

Just talked with an admissions officer at UCD last week. My sources > Your sources.

@anacondrea of course theyre gonna say that to you!

i mean common… why the hell would UCSD not take all those HIGHLY qualified students? kinda dumb on their part. i mean its too much of coincidence for those that were waitlisted also got into ucla and/or cal

Did ANYONE WITHOUT TAG GET ACCEPTED to UCSD?

Or were you merely wait listed?

Major: Sociology
GPA: 3.7
IGETC: Yes
Tag: No
Waitlisted at UCSD
Accepted to Cal and UCLA

@jensiu
I got waitlisted, didn’t get into Cal or LA. Some people got into Cal and LA AND SD, some people got into LA/SD, SD/CAL, and every other combination of schools. That’s evidence that the schools just have different criteria and take who they can get. TAG is obviously the reason so many highly qualified students did not get in, and that’s why they are raising the GPA limit- they know it’s flawed.
I see no evidence for a conspiracy theory. In fact, there is evidence to the contrary.

@elkheart
I agree. I got into all three schools and I know plenty of people who did. But for me, it was a matter of getting a high GPA, doing TAG and TAP, having a lot of EC, and good essays. If you guarantee yourself a spot by being highly qualified, there is no way that they could reject you. But if they see that you did TAP and not TAG, didn’t finish prereqs for their school, etc., I would assume that UCSD’s admissions are smart enough to see from your application that you are not very intersted in going to their school and that you have good enough stats to go elsewhere. It doesn’t take a genius to see that. So no, the UC’s don’t communicate with each other.

3.5 Linguistics major, All requirments met.finished in two years. no grade below a B. No tag. Rejected

My friend- 3.2 music major. Did not complete requirements. Finished in 4 years. failed 8 classes (but made them up to get C’s) Part of tag program. Accepted

I am really disliking tag at the moment

@iswfal

I’m with you. Tag is a joke, especially with it’s low requirements. I got into Cal and UCLA and waitlisted at UCSD, but I actually do prefer to attend UCSD.

Who knew signing one piece of paper and having low stats is all it took to get into a good college? Haha.

Even if they got in from signing a paper, they will still have to complete UCSD courses with passing grades and I’m pretty sure that some people will not pass, barely pass their classes, and/or even drop out.

Yea thats true I can see them looking at it like that. But schools like merced and rside contact you when dont get into any? And you didnt even apply to rside and merced. Haha they contact you after its all over. My friend recieved it last year

@squidandthewail I got in without tag. but I think its because i’m out of state so they just wanted my money lol

So my friend last year got into the engineering progtam with a 3.0 and tag. Isnt engineering impacted?

@jensiu114 my life sucks

Any math majors got denied or waitlisted. I would like to know ur stats please

My life sucks too! (solemn high five!)

Does anyone believe a good reason to appeal is because u have all the pre req done and u could prove the admission people u can finish college in 2 yrs

bio, mechanical, and aerospace engineering are impacted. The average gpa of engineering students at ucsd last year was 2.8-2.9. (obviously it varies among the different engineering majors).

@cuirederussie
I think it’s a good reason. BTW what is your gpa?

@360 3.0 did u get accepted if so whats ur major. Do u think my gpa is really low and i didnt tag
