@squid: If it was so easy, why didn’t you check the box on that silly little paper?

Accepted as Biochemistry major without TAG!!!
:D

@addyamaa9
whats ur stats. were u in the waitlist then got accepted

@cuirderussie

I personally do not believe you have grounds for appeal based on the reading I have done, but if your heart is set on getting into UCSD it definitely doesn’t hurt anything to try.

Here are some tips to help you start thinking about the angle you’ll take when writing it: [Ms. Sun’s UC Admissions Blog - Transfer Appeal Guidelines](Error)

@cuirderussie: With a 3.0 and no TAG, there’s no way an appeal is going to work. The hard GPA floor for non-impacted majors last year was 3.2, meaning that barring any unusual situations or extremely small major applicant pool, nobody got in below that. That appears to have gone up this year (we don’t know for sure yet where it’s at) due to the number of people in the 3.2-3.5 range who got denied or waitlisted.

The appeal committee isn’t going to care about what you say you can do, they’re going to care about what you can tell them now, and there’s no new information you can give them that wasn’t on your application to begin with.

The floor for transfers non-tag was above a 3.6. I emailed why i wasn’t accepted and they said because I was below the minimum GPA cut off.

@Random_Monkey

3.6 gpa is extremely stiff, that’s incredible if true

a 3.6 is a fantastic gpa. mind is blown.

ya i know right 3.65 and i still didnt make the cut off :(

i blame illegal immigrants

wow the cutoff was 3.65? jeesus.

Above 3.65 apparently.

Waitlisted at SD and admitted into LA and Berkeley. I loled.

I honestly don’t think that GPA had much to do with non-TAG admission decisions this year. I applied as a Communication major (a non-impacted major) and was wait listed.

My stats:
A 3.93 GPA
IGETC completed and certified in January
A killer essay
A Congressional Internship on my resume
Other pretty decent extracurriculars

And supposedly it helps being a San Diego County resident, which I am. So I’m guessing they just didn’t see my application until after the point where they just started waitlisting or rejecting all non-TAG applicants.

I was admitted to Berkeley (Media Studies) and UCSB (Communication). So, I’m going to Berkeley. Easiest decision I’ve ever had to make.

Well what can i do. I cant re take any of my math class cuz i only got a’s and b’s. whats the point staying another year of cc. seriously do u guys have any suggestion.

@cuirderussie: Did you apply to all the UCs? How about CSUs? Merced and Riverside seem to offer admission to a lot of people that weren’t accepted at other UCs… maybe you’ll get an offer from one of those schools.

I made the mistake last year of only applying to one school (UCI) and was rejected, so I had to stay at a CC for an extra year. If you’re stuck at CC for another year, you can at least try to finish all the lower division requirements you can. At least they’re cheap that way.

@cuirderussie: You could spend a year at CC, get all As and bump your GPA up to a 3.5 to qualify for TAG. Other than that, you’ll have to pick another school.

I feel bad for the applicants next year. 3.5 tag is not an easy feat, well maybe just for science and engineering majors.

Considering how much I dicked around in CC and still managed a 3.0, a 3.5 is still fairly easily attainable. TAG never mattered for some science and most engineering degrees anyway.

dude, you took like 5 years. For engineering or science majors that want to get out of CC’s in two years, it is considerably more difficult. Im averaging 19 units a semester for the last two years and completed all pre reqs. But thanks to AP classe from high school I received TAG and was admitted. While my friend who is also majoring in chemical, finished all pre reqs with a 3.5 (which was higher than mine) and didnt do tag, got denied. This year proved how necessary TAG was.

For engineering majors, TAG is irrelevant for UCSD (mostly.) For bio majors, it’s also irrelevant. So what are we talking about? The chem majors? The two botany majors?

And I took 7 years, but started in 10th grade, which is what hurt me. I had to overcome an incredibly low GPA to start with, which required me to take more and more units just to get up to a 3.0. College wasn’t anything I took seriously or had the maturity to understand the significance of until after I graduated HS (which was 2+ years into CC) and therefore I not only had to take more classes, but I had to do so with higher than 3.5 GPA average just to climb back to a 3.0.

Graduating in 3 years from a CC (assuming the courses are offered) with a 3.5 isn’t difficult at all. Doing it in 2 years with summer sessions isn’t either.

If you’re averaging 19 units a semester, that’s 76 in 2 years, which is more than you need for TAG anyway.

So I faxed in my verification forms on the 30th…has anyone’s status changed on the Financial Aid summary (verifying they’ve received them, etc?)
