@ Politricks…
yup, thats acutally what led to my previous question…

I have a random question. What do you guys see under “FAQS” menu in your ucsd application?

Do you guys see this as well?
“The College System
Residence for Tuition Purposes
Housing
Newly Admitted Students”

I am pretty sure I didn’t see them there before. Maybe, it’s just me xD

^ Everyone sees them. They’re FAQs.

bruin321, is that an impacted major? I’d like to switch from hist to int’l stud…unless it’s impacted obviously

I’m ridiculously sick of waiting, especially cuz there’s only been 1 batch so far X_______X
fm.l!!!1

There’s been two batches so far.

I got my acceptance in the very beginning of March (maybe even the end of February). I just randomly checked on like March 1st, and it said “Congrats…blablabla”
Is that unusual to get it so early?

yes it is, i would be worried if i were you.

uh oh that doesn’t sound good

I know a lot of people that heard early March that are transfer students. Two girls in My chemistry class got theirs in early March and the two people that I volunteer with at the UCSD Hospital got theirs in early March as well. Funny thing is I have a higher GPA than all of them but they all have like 75 or more units.

I’m pretty sure there’s an unseen factor that determines where one will fall in the order of applicants reviewed. Maybe has to do when the application was completed, last name…could be anything. It’s not “random” because computers are incapable…and I don’t think they’re pulling 15,000 names out of a hat.

I had ~ 3.5, submitted my app on the last day (before the extension), last name Wisdom (reverse alphanumeric), used TAG, Psychology and received my acceptance in the first batch.

Don’t think it’s based on GPA…My guess is it’s based on a combination of factors, probably with an algorithm thrown in for a small amount of artificial randomization.

mkcman17:

No it is not. Supposedly the only impacted majors are bio majors and engineering majors. Most other majors are not, including international studies. And UCSD is well known for their International Studies department which is ranked pretty high compared to other university.

What about minority ethnicity? All of the people that I know that have been accepted are of a minority ethnicity.

That’s not it either. My friend from my Political Science class got in with a 3.3 and he’s as white as you can be. Didn’t put “Other” or anything on his application. He was tagged.

I thought it was minorities because all my friends that got in were minorities, but affirmative action isn’t what it used to be. The schools don’t have to worry about having a high percentage of one ethnic group over the other as long as it’s not drastic. UCSD has been nearly 50% Asian since the 90’s.

just talked to a admissions officer…if you didnt check tag. your outta luck and put it regular applicant pool. They said the GPA usually is 3.0 cutoff but the number of applicants is so great that they are increasing the cut-off but that hasnt been determined what it is yet. He also said they look at academic history…no extra-currics, essay etc…just FYI

The schools haven’t worried about it at all since Prop 209 in the 90s.

@bruin321

thanks. makes my decision harder yet. damnit.

Hopefully there will be another batch this week!

Are you ready for my prediction? This Wednesday will be the next batch.

I was thinking the same thing! I really hope it’ll be wednesday!
