Rejected for comp sci with specialization in bioinformatics. Oh well, got into Davis and Irvine. Now just waiting for Santa Barbara.
Accepted into UCSD for Aerospace Engineering!
Stats:
2060 SAT (680 CR/690 M &W)
33 ACT w/ a 28 M
~4.0 UC GPA, ~3.6 UW (7 point scale)
Decent ECs, a lot of swimming
Decently good essays
OOS but instate tuition
Pretty surprised and I’ll probably try to change my major to CS or something but hey, I’m definitely not complaining… One of my top choices in addition to UCSC and RIT.
@Emily97 Were you accepted yesterday?
@tiredaf16 No, I’m pretty sure it was last week. I got my package today.
Does anyone know if you are waitlisted, do you still get accepted into your major or are you accepted off waitlist undeclared?
I applied to UCSD as a Computer Science major but got accepted as Undeclared. I don’t know what to do now. I really want to be a Triton, but I’m afraid I wont be able to major in CS. I have already gotten accepted to UCI, UCD, and Cal Poly as a CS major. Does anyone have any advice for me? What would you guys do if you were me?
@parsi7 If you are sure you want to major in CS it is too risky to go to UCSD. A little bad luck or bad professors and your GPA won’t be high enough to get in.
I think ill concentrate on my current acceptances and wait on the other UCs not out yet. UCSD is folI really love UC Davis and UCSC is a cool place. Fingers crossed for the others sending good news.
Waitlisted. Did anyone get accepted on Friday or was it all waitlist and denied? I was not surprized to be waitlisted after getting march 30d. Happy not to be denied. My stats
4.5 wgpa, 4.2 ucgpa
32 ACT
10 honors/AP classes
Varsity Sport, captain last two seasons
Excellent community service
To those appling next year. Many schools are admitting in order of honors, accept, waitlist and denied last. Hope is good to have but be realistic if you dont get in on the first wave after the honors acceptances. Another bit of advice is to research which majors are most impacted. The range of stats for acceptances range depending on major.
I have several excellent schools to choose from and waiting on news from a few more.
Waitlisted! (Better than nothing I guess!)
3.8 GPA
1960 SAT
7 APs
2 Varsity Sports/Captain, ASB, Drama President, Girl’s League Member (Community Service)
Major: Theater
Honestly, colleges like grades, not much more else to say
I have a few schools to choose from and to still hear back from. To everyone next year, don’t let college decisions define you! It will all work out
I got into my number 2 school UCSD, but waitlisted my my dream school, UC Davis.
@silentwarrior can we trade?? I’ll give you my UC Davis acceptance for your UCSD one haha. UCSD is my dream #1 school and it seemed like davis was harder to get in this year(than usual) so this process made no sense to me
@sarale I totally would do that if I could! Yea, UCD is suppose to be easier to get into. I totally thought I wasn’t going to get into UCSD.
Got some juicy info I feel like all my fellow waitlisters deserve to know. I told my family friend who works at UCB what happened, and he said that waitlisters are usually great, highly-qualified students. But what all the UCs do is over-accept OOS students, who are usually less qualified, so they can get their full tuition for a year (yeah, just ONE year:))). They want to see how much $$$$$ they can squeeze out. There’s seriously nothing wrong with the waitlist kids. I mean, they aren’t going to be the regents kids, but he said it’s usually random kids plucked out of the accepted pile to make room for OOS. Kinda slimy if you ask me.
*he works in admissions, so he kinda knows what he’s talking about lol
@brokencoconut my heart broke when i read “we regret to inform…theres a waitlist though” when i checked my portal. I see many people that got off ucsd waitlist but by that point, most of them either are too bitter to accept their waitlist option or have already set their mind on a different college. Thanks for the information, it gives me a glimmer of hope at ucsd!
Definitely don’t feel bad! California is just reeeaally messed up, and their public college system shows it. A lot of people are gonna be bitter or get accepted into a better college though, so even trying for the waitlist has good odds of getting in
Dear all - as a parent of a college-bound senior, I’ve experienced this roller-coaster first hand with my son and every single student and parent on CC. I can honestly say that I am humbled and blown away by each one of you amazing young people! You give me (mid 50’s) hope for the future, and no matter where you go for your undergrad (and you WILL go to a great school that is right for you), the world is a better place because you are in it.
The college admission process is brutal, unfair, random, and seems totally arbitrary - but I assure you that four years from now, you will look back at this process and realize that you are a better person for having been through it. If someone like me who went to an obscure school for UG and an Ivy for grad school, then was fortunate enough to work in an industry that made a real difference in people’s lives… so CAN YOU!
Do not despair. You will reach your full potential no matter where you go. To me, you are already heroes! Have faith in yourselves, and remember - you are NOT - repeat NOT - a number. SAT 2160 or ACT 34 or GPA 4.65 or 12 APs - these do not define you. The relationships you have with your parents and siblings and friends define who you are.
My sincere blessings and best wishes to each of you - don’t let this get you down!
@SilverLining712 This comment should be posted on all college forums. As a senior, I WISH that every parent had the same mindset as you. The college you go to does not equate success. Did Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, or Bill Gates graduate from college? No, but look at their long list of achievements! GL to every single one of you awaiting a decision. Remember that rejection doesn’t mean that you’re not good enough; it means that the college failed to notice what you have to offer.
Oh wait for those who got waitlisted, you guys got the message that you have to “apply” to be in the waitlist right? You have to write 150~200 essay. Every waitlist ppl got that right?
