@Pink104, they are both great schools, but very different. Depends on your major and the vibe you are looking for, among other things. UCSD has a more impressive campus, but Santa Barbara is (IMO) more laid back.
@kcheves I am planning to go to med school. Which school will give me an advantage? My major in UCSD is cogs sci, biopsych in UCSB.
is there a facebook group for 2022 students? get me in please.
@Pink104, that’s not a question I can answer for you.
I have been accepted at UCSD for Math in Education. Is it easy to change major inside the same department? I may prefer, for example, Applied Math.
right now I have to pick between ucsd (which is ~60,000 a year due to out of state) and uw-madison (~26,000, in state). what are some benefits of ucsd that I wouldn’t get anywhere else (biochem major) so I can justify ucsd?
UCSD is a great school but at 60K a year? Save yourself the hassle of having to deal with loans and repayment options later on down the line, even if it’s a fixed interest rate. It’s not worth it.
@ercollege2022 There is no justification for UCSD when you have a great school like Wisconsin at in state rate
@thinkweism @CopperlineX2 okay thanks! I just wanted to know if there was anything different but I guess they’re comparable so it’s an easy choice now
I keep looking to see if UCSD posted financial aid since UCSB and UCLA posted. No luck yet. UCI claiming financial aid award won’t be ready until mid April. Really beginning to dislike that school.
Called financial aid should be out tomorrow for ucsd
Asking for a friend but did anyone else get the regents breakfast invite in their portal?
@Pink104 I firmly believe that if you get involved at UCSD, you’ll have way more opportunities to excel as a pre-med. There’s a med school on campus and $1 billion more in overall research funding, pretty much everyone I know is in one or more labs. Our cogsci department was the first in the world and is still ranked #1 I believe, so if you talk to the right professors you should be able to put some impressive achievements on your resume.
As far as off-campus housing, it’s expensive but not unbearable. You can get a single off-campus from $750-900/month, and if you’re willing to share that obviously goes down. Commuting isn’t bad, the city buses and campus shuttles are free for students and very frequent.
Hey UCSD just updated my financial aid status and said they haven’t received my Fafsa?? Has this happened with anybody else?
Anyone receive acceptance packets in the mail yet?
just got the financial aid report
Full ride!!!
Did regents come out too? Or is that another day?
I’d have to pay $9500 a year. I wish they had more need-based aid.
Big fat goose egg on the financial aid. Ugh.
