If you have a low GPA, don’t lose hope! I think my essays are what carried me.

@RohitSinghal: You cannot appeal your admitted major but if you enroll, you could possibly change your major. It depends upon which major you are trying to change into from the original admitted major.

https://students.ucsd.edu/academics/advising/majors-minors/declare-or-change-major.html

Engineering majors especially are extremely hard to change into if not a direct admit along with some other capped majors.

As stated by UCSD admissions and several posters, for applicants that were not admitted into their choice major, a decision needs to be made. Do you want to attend UCSD or pursue your choice major? You may not be able to fulfill both.

For those that did not get into CSE and are thinking about trying to get in once you are there, please read the small print carefully. You need to complete certain courses and then it is a lottery. https://cse.ucsd.edu/undergraduate/cse-capped-admissions-program

Son was accepted into alternate major in college of engineering. Is it basically just as difficult to go from one engineering major to another as it is to come from a major outside of engineering into the college of engineering?

Hi guys, I got waitlisted for political science. Do you guys know what’s the realistic chance of getting off of the waitlist? Thank you!

Son OOS (VA) got into UCSD. Got in as an undeclared/general major. Applied as a CS major. The wording of the Admissions Office FAQs is confusing. Do people get in as a CS major? So if he applied as a CS major and got in as an undeclared major, that means he was rejected by the CS department? (And yes, I know about the capped major thing. Just interested to know if it’s even possible to get in as a CS major or if everyone gets in undeclared.) Thanks for any insights!

@collegefresh7364:

UCSD does not list their waitlist data in their common dataset so no way to determine how likely your chances are of getting off. It will be dependent upon how many admitted students SIR by May 1.

In the meantime, if you are interested than opt into the waitlist (if you have a choice) and focus on your other schools that have accepted you.

ok, I guess I’ll just have to keep my fingers crossed. Thank you!

There are at least three posts in this thread of people who got in as CS majors. Look at posts #191, 212 and 229

and #236

Son got accepted to UCSD. Did anyone get the Regents’ Scholarship?

Yes, my son got it. $20000 for 4 years
