I opted into the waitlist but what do we do now? Do we just wait? I got rejected from UCSB and UCD but waitlisted UCSD and UCSC. (all applied for CS) I got into Northeastern and if UCI or UCLA dont accept me im going there, however, i dont rly wanna go to Boston.
@zclzen:
From the UC website:

For students who were offered and accepted a space on a waitlist at one of the campuses, can they do anything to increase their chances of selection? Are students ranked?
Whether or not a campus will offer admission to students on a waitlist depends on a number of factors, including the number of students initially offered admission who accept a space by the Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) deadline (May 1 for freshman, June 1 for transfers), and campus and department enrollment goals. There is nothing that a student should or can do other than opt-in to the waitlist by the stated deadline. Any additional information submitted that was not requested by the campus will not be considered.
The process for selecting students from the waitlist varies at each campus. A campus might have enrollment goals for a particular major, leading to the admission of students who applied to that program, but not others. Or a campus might admit broadly.
If waitlist offers for UCSD is most likely to come out after May 1st and we have to commit to somewhere else by then, what do we do if we get accepted off the waitlist and want to attend UCSD? Do we withdraw our registration from the other college?
@anxiety00: If you are admitted from the waitlist, then you withdraw from the school that you SIR’d to on May 1 and then accept UCSD. You will lose your enrollment deposit from the original school.
Hey guys I was also waitlisted to UCSD.
**Update: Thanks to another poster on the UCLA discussion thread, I found 2019 Waitlist data for UCSD.
Waitlist Offers: 20,000
Waitlist Admits: 4,300
thank you so much!!!
@gumbymom do you know how many of the offered actually opted into the waitlist
@collegefresh7364: unfortunately that is all the information I could find for 2019.
does anyone know when waitlist decisions will come out for ucsd? or when it came out the past years? I really dont hope it’ll be after may 1st because then it’ll be after I commit to another college
My son was waitlisted for EE for Fall 2019 at UCSD and was accepted off the waitlist in May 2019.
@anxiety00: You should expect waitlist decisions will not come out until after May 1 so please enroll in another school before the deadline. If you hear sooner, great but many students will wait until the last minute to SIR so UCSD will not have all the information to determine the spots available until then.

Good luck to all waitlists
This may seem like a silly question but I was wondering how students are chosen off the waitlist. Is it based off of stats or is it random?
@chickenloaf hey girl! I got waitlisted for business psych as well:( do u know what exactly is business psych?
should I still send my final transcript and ap scores to ucsd even though im on the waitlist?
My S got waitlisted CS- UCGPA 3.9 and SAT 1450. Good ECS and Reasonable essay.
Not sure his chances.
@anxiety00: The deadline for transcripts and AP scores is July. I would wait to hear from UCSD one way or another before sending them.
@pdickermn My son is in a similar situation. I think he is leaning towards UCSC to avoid flying across the country. Your thoughts on UCSC for CS? It seems like a great option but I don’t have any first hand experience.
@centralcoas I’m currently in the same situation as well, I got into UCSC, Virginia Tech, and Cal Poly for CS and then waitlisted at UCSD, but I heard that the opportunities and the environment there is amazing. Apparently since its near Silicon Valley there’s great chances for internships.
