Is it just me or does it feel like UCSD waitlisted a lot more people than usual this year?
Does anyone know generally how, in a normal year anyway, the waitlist kids are evaluated if there is room and UCSD goes to the waitlist? Are waitlisted students ranked in some way or is major more of a factor? For example do you have a better chance of getting in as a poli sci or Econ major than engineering or other stem major because the major is in less demand?

@centralcoastsky yes he did get admitted into EE. He Ended up not going to UCSD as we wanted him out of our back yard (we live 5 miles from UCSD) and not home every weekend so he stayed w cap poly SLO. Thank you for asking. Good luck!

Waitlisted for Mathematics
GPA 3.8 (no weighted GPA because my school doesnt offer AP/Honors classes .-.)
However I did complete these courses in Community College:
Pre-Calc (A)
Calc 1 (during 11th grade summer B)
Chemistry (during 11th grade summer A)
Calc 2 (B)
Calc 3 (In Progress - probably an A)
Linear Algebra (IP - probably an A/B)
Differential Equations (IP - probably a B)
My school also had no ECs but I did do Student Senate for my community college, start a club for Math, Engineering and Comp Sci at the community college and do volunteer Math Tutoring at the community college as well.
Does anyone know if you can appeal on the waitlist for UCSD? I have heard mixed messages and I am very confused. Can someone please give me an answer. Thank you!
Does anyone know when the batches of waitlist decisions usually start to come out?
I think they start coming out after May 1. But if I remember right some came out 4/26 of last year but let me double check.
Just checked the first one came out 4/26 last year but I believe it’s different every year.
@johnjohnson87: No you cannot appeal while on UCSD’s waitlist.
@chickenloaf: Typically, you should not expect any waitlist decisions to be made before May 1 so please SIR to another school until you hear from UCSD.
@Gumbymom I know you can’t appeal while being on waitlist, but does it hurt you if you do? UCSD has been my dream school for soooo long so I really want to grab on to what I can and take the last shot at it. So is there going to be negative consequences if I appeal?
@anxiety00: They will not accept an appeal if you are waitlisted. If they reject you from the waitlist, then you can appeal.
My son is on the waitlist for Computer Science too. I heard that if you go in as undecided or a totally different major, it will be very difficult, if at all possible, to get back into your CS major. Is that true?
@mom0f2: Changing from Undeclared or another major into CS is difficult since it is done by lottery with no guarantee even if you meet the course and GPA requirements. If he has a direct into CS at other schools, he should consider those options.
@Gumbymom got it. Can I still change my major while in the waitlist or no? I want to be accepted with my alternative major instead of my first choice (both are not capped)
@anxiety00: As far as I am aware, you cannot change majors while on the waitlist. I suggest you contact admissions to confirm.
did anyone receive an email from ucsd regarding the waitlist?
