^^ what are your stats??

dont worry once you get in there is soooo muchhhh more to worry about…

my stats? well i’m actually out-of-state so i think i said in another thread that yeah, i’m not expecting too much from the UC’s (i’ve applied elsewhere too for transfer). but my stats are:
3.782 GPA
from Vanderbilt University
applying for gender studies/women’s studies major…the name changes at different schools…

From Vanderbilt?
Why do you transfer?
I would like to transfer to there!
I mean I applied both UCSD and Vanderbilt and also others, but I thought Vandy is much better than UCSD, at least from its ranking.

it’s not the right fit. i’ve had a lot of people ask me that question on this site and to just kind of summarize it: lack of diversity, too centered around greek life, very sheltered campus, etc. there are a lot of other reasons but i don’t have time to explain it all since i’m studying right now for finals.

i figure if i have a father that is able to pay for my education without a problem, i deserve to be happy at a school where i fit in you know? if i had to be on financial aid i probably without a doubt would stay here since vandy is very good with helping students out with tuition.

PS rank isnt everything. at least its not to me?

I guess nothing yet.

It’s good to have a thread on the CC UC Transfers 1st page that isn’t about UCLA.

-.-;;

Good luck you guys! [:

sweetpotato, I hope I did not annoy you by my last post. I am not from a rich family, either. I am now doing two part time job, 20 hours a week. My mother said she would pay all my tuition whichever university I like, but I feel a kind of … ashamed…with those expensive universities I have applied.
Thank you for telling your feeling of Vandy. I will think more in choosing universities.
Well, being an international student, you know, I really feel difficult choosing universities, having little imformations except for universities official website and ranking.

oh no you didn’t hurt my feelings haha
all i meant was i do get that question a lot but i can understand people asking me that. no worries!

Think we’ll find out on Friday? ;)

I would think it’d make sense for UCSD to let everyone know before UCLA and Berkeley make there decisions. Who knows though.

nah… that’d be too predictable.

Nah it would make sense for them to release the rest of their admissions when UCLA does, because many of the UCSD students who are pending on going there probably have it as a second school. UCSD doesn’t want to admit too many students especially now due to budget cuts.

@chengzicc,

I could be wrong, but I heard (from my econ teacher) that international students actually get more financial support at Private universities rather than UC’s (or any public institutions). I could be mistaken, but perhaps you should check into that.

lol ucsd is higher ranked in alot of programs over ucla…and whats funny is that there ratings keep going down and ucsd rating keep going up… ill goto ucsd for my degree in electrical engineering…
besides just ratings its by the beach and its one of the greenest schools in the country…there are so many reasons to gothere but ucla is just a name and as much as its like ohh ucla i really dont like there program… ohh well more for me at ucsd :)

The biggest thing going against UCSD is that it doesn’t have any really prominent sports team which means it doesn’t get the national exposure UCLA and Cal do.
When ever I tell anyone who isn’t from California that I want to go to UCSD, they instantly assume its some party school simply because it is in SD. (They don’t believe me when I tell them that its actually beating UCLA and UCB in alot of programs, and that it is rising prestige quite quickly).

and the “no social life” stigma?

^no one believes that(outside of CA)!! seriously, they all think I just want to go to some party school…good thing I don’t give a rat’s ass about their opinion!

Not to make any one more nervous but…

UCSD Guardian:

A total of 11,184 transfer students applied to UCSD for Fall Quarter 2009, more than 10,000 of these having attended a California community college.

About 1,920 transfer students are expected to be admitted to UCSD in fall 2009, marking a 17 percent increase from fall 2008.

So where does this come in when someone mentioned that the UC rep said you will get in if you have the requirements? Surely more than 1920 applicants have met them???

A Rep. told me the same, that based oin my stats I should get in…but the odds seem a little less direct than that…

^^ on the site under frequently asked questions

Q: How many transfer students applied and how many were admitted?
A: We received nearly 11,000 transfer applications for Fall 2009, with approximately 6,300 students admitted for an enrollment target of 1,900. The enrollment goals are established annually.

So about a 56% acceptance rate… that is pretty high.
