First of all, I am very proud of us. I like how we are not going down without a fight.
Aquafinaa, go get them. It was a mistake, but you obviously qualify, admitting extra students should not be catastrophic. To the rest of you, good luck!
Also, I hope that, when UCSD wakes up and gets someone to serve as PR advisor, they let the admissions people know that it is not helpful to be RUDE and condensing to people. No matter what, they are representing the academic facility and that is a critical role to the outside world.

Finally, I would like to seek some feedback. I was rejected for “several” reasons:
They miscalculated my gpa as a 3.4, when it is actually a 4.0 (I have verified this with both institutions I attended, just in case I was the insane one somehow).
The English class I took for English 1 is not what they will accept, however, the description closely matches that of both theirs and of Palomar’s from the assist site (I was advised in August 2008 to take the english class while out of state by a UCSD rep, a Palomar transfer rep, and the counselor from this school).

UCSD said I should appeal and I will. However, they screwed up. I did nothing wrong and did everything I was supposed to. Is there any other way to handle this situation that anyone has come across? Many thanks and sorry to write a freaking essay! :)

Why do you guys want to attend UCSD soooo bad? please dont take this in a wrong way. I’m just confuse with my decision w/ ucsd. I got accepted, but thinking about denying the offer and go UC Davis. I mean are you guys all science and math or engineer majors? Im communication, and I just dono if that school is right for me.

But it seems like you guys want this school super badly, and I was hoping maybe you guys can talk some sense into me in making me stay with UCSD.

I am a dual math and biochem major. San Diego is my home. A very close family member recently died of cancer out of state, so i moved here to spend his last year with him.
I want to go home. I am feeling very upset with this freak show of a bizarre circus UCSD is conducting, but I want to go home. It is a great school, academically, and I still feel a lot of pride for it. I also want to attend med school and UCSD is a great prep for that.
You pose a good question though. Just because they are colossal screwups in admissions, does not negate the fact that they have an incredible academic program and phenomenal instructors, from whom I would be honored to learn as much as possible.
Great location does not hurt either. You really can’t beat La Jolla.
Good luck

I live in San Diego as well. Its really hard to beat the weather, absolutely perfect all year in my opinion. Never too hot and never too cold. I live in Hillcrest so I am close to downtown. Tons of stuff do, great restaurants, beaches, and UCSD does have a great reputation for being a good school. I am a Poli Sci major, and I applied only to UCSD because that is the only school I wanted to attend. Fortunately I was was accepted.
Maybe you should schedule a tour a look at the campus. The tour is about an 1 1/2 - 2 hours. This will give you a chance to see it up close. After the tour you have an opportunity to speak with an admissions officer for 45 minutes.

Haha, Gatita. Maybe you should be their PR rep. I hope they get all that crap squared out because a 4.0 and a 3.4 are a big difference!

Music–I only applied to UCSD and nowhere else. I’ve already had the privelage of attending a school outside of california and living on my own, paying my own rent, throwing my own parties etc etc. There is no way that I could do that once again. It was fun and all but there was no time for play, it was all work and all school.

Living in san diego puts me at close proximity to my home and I am a science major. I am planning on going premed as well and it is an excellent place to be prepared academically. Their standards are much higher than that of other UC schools UCLA and Berkeley (because they are technically on the same playing field).

The school is right by the ocean. Once you leave campus, you don’t see 4’s and 5’s anymore. The people surrounding La Jolla are all rich 8’s through 10’s. There is a very attractive crowd in that area once you step off the campus. You could get out of class one day and surf at some of the best beaches in San Diego.

When you graduate at UCSD there is a high percentage of job offers. I’m not sure if this goes with all majors but I heard UCSD engineers are offered a higher starting salary than other schools. I’m not quite sure about this part but you could do some research. I just heard about it.

This will sound a bit silly, but I have always wanted to go to UCSD. I was probably in 7th or 8th grade when I figured out what I wanted to do — attend UCSD and study psychology. That has ALWAYS been the plan for me; most kids don’t know what they want to do at that age and they throw out a list of possible things and as they go through high school, they start narrowing down the choices and hope all goes well. As a high school student, I applied to UCSD and several other UC and CSU campuses. UCSD was the only college I got denied admission, but it was the only school I wanted to go to and I did not want to settle (I don’t know why I applied to other schools – waste of money).

So instead of choosing any other UC, where I could have gone with friends or probably be finished with a bachelor’s degree by now, I chose to go to an outstanding CC and try to get in that way. Along the way I have had so many obstacles (which would have been the basis for my appeal) and I was still not deterred from wanting to attend. Four years later (and many, many units) I’m finally at the stage where I think I’m mature enough to attend and be at the level that I want to be, and what do you know? I finally get accepted.

Academically, it is a great institution. It has a great program for Psychology majors, and of course, that’s why I wanted to attend I also applied to UCLA this past winter, and though I was rejected, I had to wrinkle my nose at UCLA’s psychology program … it did not meet what I was looking for, and although it is ranked higher than UCSDs, I would much prefer UCSD to it.

And how amazing is this? I can get my B.S. in psychology a year from now (next June) and if I get into the degree program that I want at UCSD, I can get my M.A. in psychology the following year! It’s a reputable institution with a great emphasis in science and math and I’m sure that it would look great for job offers and such when I graduate.

Besides, I would have been ANGRY for taking one whole year of calculus and one whole year of science (plus more math and PROGRAMMING classes) for a PSYCHOLOGY major and not get into UCSD. You cannot imagine how many weird looks I got from other students in CC who were majoring in biochemistry, chemistry, engineering and related fields. They were usually the ones who were at the higher chemistry and calculus courses, and when I told them my major was psychology … they were like ***? lol

man, you are all talking about how nice San Diego is and it makes me just want to go back home. i hate that they rejected me and my grandparents do too. SD is the place for me and i wish i could just write that in my appeal. ha

I also only applied to UCSD because at this time I can not move and go anywhere else. I have health problems so my doctors are in San Diego. My boyfriend (of five years, he recently gave me his kidney) and I live together and he has a career here. If I could move and I had my choice I’d either go to UCLA or I’d move to Seattle and go to school there. As far as the school goes though, academically, it seems like a good school.

Personally, I’m not very fond of San Diego. I’m more fond of living in the Pacific Northwest but I do what I have to do. Who knows? Maybe I’ll learn to love the beach.

Calipearl, you couldn’t of articulated it better, I will never waver in getting into UCSD… I’m getting in there I dont care if I to wait until I’m 80. But I got a question for anyone who did tag… do you still have to do all those courses that were on the brochure or just finish IGETC and have a 3.0 now?

Although UCSD was more like the school I never thought I would get admissions to, I do feel very proud and happy that I got accepted. Thanks to your opinions and advice, I will at least attend transfer admit day before I decide.

Anyone going as well? I am from SF bay, but I’m willing to fly there for that day, maybe hope to see some of you there so I can get even a better understanding of the campus. So if your going to admit day and don’t mind maybe meeting n touring together that day, let me know, maybe we can myspace or facebook or something.

Music, I’m from the Bay too! But South Bay. I signed up for a tour but I’ll be there on transfer admit day. I wouldn’t mind meeting and touring together, if you want :)

So on friday when I checked my ucsd status it told me I was rejected…however, today when I went back on the site, it said that I was admitted to Muir. So those that had TAG and were rejected, go check the site to see if anything changed.

I tried to call admissions for over an hour on Friday, but I couldn’t get through. So I just messaged them via the “contact us” section on My TritonLink(credit to snickerdoodle) and today I went from being DENIED to ADMITTED!!! So happy!!

Don’t lose hope!!! If you have TAG then it was definitely a mistake on their behalf. It’s just a matter of time before they get to you.

Congrats!!! That is so great. Did you ever talk to someone at the admissions office or just through the email? I also was rejected with TAG and they told me they would call me on Monday.

Okay I cant decide econ major… should i go to cal or ucsd? I got into ucsd first and I was excited because I live in the bay area and I was looking forward to a change and san diego is beautiful! then i got into berkeley and well its berkeley… so what should i do honestly! help!!!

I didn’t get a chance to talk to the admissions officer. I tried calling for the longest time, but I kept getting the “all lines are busy” message. So I figured I’d just e-mail them since I had to go to work and their office would have been closed by the time I got off of work.
