UCSD FALL 2016 TRANSFER THREAD

Does anyone know if UCSD would accept a summer class taken at a CC this summer? I still need Calculus 2 and was wondering if I could do it at CC this summer. I’m a general biology major and it’s looking like I will need to retake the physics series since the ones I took at CC don’t articulate over. I also need to do Ochem. I was hoping I could finish some of the math before I get there. Really torn between UCSD and UCSB. I really want to attend UCSD though.

Does anyone know anything about changing to a capped major, and how possible it is? I got accepted for International Business (my first choice of major, but I’ve changed my mind since applying), but I just want to do Econ w/ an Accounting minor. Econ is a capped major, but the criteria for acceptance are virtually the same as Econ, and I’m actually done with more prereqs for that major. I really don’t want to go to UCSD unless I know it’s a possibility to change my major while there. I just don’t know how firm they are with their capped majors, and if there’s any wiggle room.

(Also, if anyone knows a better place to post this, please let me know. I posted in the general UCSD thread, but there hasn’t been an answer after a few days, I’m assuming because it’s so specific for transfers).

Has anyone received a call from an admissions officer?

I have a missed call from a number that is logged on the website under one of the officers for 7:21, which is rather late for these kinds of things. Maybe it was to personally notify me of my admissions? I’m assuming that they call back or email if it is anything important so I don’t see the point in trying to call back. Not to mention, I am learning towards UCLA if Berkeley does not work out so I am not terribly worried.

When do you guys think is the best time to SIR?? How late into May is too late? I’m deciding between UCSD and UCSB. Will my housing be affected if I send in my decision too late? I’m new at this!

@TheVisionary I received a call around that time and it was a second year UCSD student congratulating me on my acceptance. That missed call you got was most likely them!

@Solstice1 Good to know. Thanks!

Hi guys!
I received a rejection letter from UCSD on 4/22 :frowning:
However, I called the Office of Admissions and got in contact with an admissions officer- she told me that the only “note” on my application aka, “the only reason for rejection” was that I had too few units! I had already decided to appeal my rejection due to my high GPA (3.8), my essay (8-9/10), and my EC’s, plus my required “new and compelling information” basis for my appeal was that I was placed on the President’s List. I’m a GBH major which is not impacted, so I had a suspicion that something on my application just wasn’t adding up. I enrolled into a spring intercession course that starts 5/31 and ends 6/17. My friend is doing the same, and since it ends 6/17, it is long before official transcripts are due (7/1). The admissions officer told me that although this appeal isn’t a guarantee, I am in the best possible situation to be admitted to UCSD, also on the basis of adding more classes to my schedule to complete the 60 unit requirement. I also contacted a few counselors including Ms Sun, and a previous admission officer at UCSD who now helps people get into college on a more broad platform. This previous admissions officer told me that she feels “very positive” regarding my chances of admission based off my appeal  Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing, or has heard of anyone that has gone through this process? Any kind thoughts would be very appreciated, this has been super duper stressful!

I recently got waitlisted at ucsd, by chance if I get in, can I change my college before I get in? I put revelle as my first choice and recently say the GE’s for math and science. I’m just a sociology major. Can I request to change? Should I call admissions?

Accepted!
Major: Communication
GPA: 3.74
IGETC: Done
Major Prep: There was none
Essay: 9/10
ECs: Multiple part-time jobs, communications intern for a congresswoman, random ECs from high school
Accepted: UCLA, UCSD, UCI, UCSB, CSULB
Denied: SDSU
Pending: Berkeley

Will be attending UCLA even though I was accepted as sociology there instead of comm
UCSD was my second pick though and congrats to everyone who got in!!

Also anyone who asks UCI or UCSD for anything, I would say UCSD every time. Better school, better area, better campus.

I got accepted to the sixth college of UCSD, and it was my first choice, but I honestly just randomly put them in an order (Smh). Is it any good???

Thread for undeclared status: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1885265-ucsd-fall-2016-undeclared-transfers.html?new=1

ssm24k - I think if you want to change colleges you have to find someone willing to switch with you.

I live exactly 30 minutes away without traffic. My sister works downtown and her best advice was to drive to campus super early

@ssm24k I was accepted and I had the email there also. I didn’t want to look too much into it cause I applied as a freshman and was admitted so I figured it could have been from that

For all those wondering about parking, it is a PITA and it is expensive. There is also a lot of extra student parking in the medical center lots if you don’t mind a little walk or skateboard ride. I work for UCSD so luckily I will be able to use my staff permit :).

For the financial aid estimate it shows no grants or anything for me… which sucks because I’m am out-of-state student. Does anybody know if UCSD gives out grants to oos students? Because at my current school they gave me $20k grant (4k 1st 2 years and 6k next 2 years) but I only got 8k cause I’m transferring to UCSD now. :frowning:

Now come the stresses of paying for this beautiful school  if anyone knows any tips for finding a roommate or is looking for a roommate (female) for the school year let me know!

@ucsdtransfer16 I think there should be a FB group to help find potential roommates! I believe someone posted a link to it already.

@med97student some of us take CC classes at the same time as UCSD classes. Classes like calculus and differential equations are probably better taken at CC because you’d get 16 weeks rather than 10 so you can learn it better. 25% of UCSD students are bio majors and Ochem here is completely aimed at them rather than Chem majors like in CC so worth it to take it here if you’re bio or even Chem really just because the instructors are so good.

Isn’t the school going to have us fill out questionnaires for compatability too?
