UCSD FALL 2016 TRANSFER THREAD

So I got admitted, the problem is I’m failing the last physics class of my series. Well, a lot of people are but that’s another story. I talked to him about how it’s going to work out in terms of grades and he says at the very end of the semester he does a giant curve so where people with Fs get Cs and the top students in the class get As (the distribution of grades right now is Fs to Cs). He looked at my info and said that I should be fine. But who knows. The class is extremely rigorous on purpose. I’ve never had this problem of failing a class before, and it kinda sucks because now it puts my admission on the line.

The thing is, I got in as Undeclared so I don’t think it’s considered a subject requirement, my 60 unit requirement is already fine, and even if I fail this class my cumulative will be above 3.0 and above 2.0 for the term. So I would think it’s fine, but what do you guys think? Anybody have a similar experience? I’m going to call UCSD admissions and ask as well.

I got a secondary admittance letter in the mail. This one reminds me of the back of cereal boxes from my childhood.

Very strange marketing campaign.

Take a W at the last minute in the instance you still think you’re failing.

Within the six colleges at UCSD, I believe that whichever college you get into doesn’t matter. My friend goes there and he is in Revelle but rarely takes any classes in the Revelle proximity. He has classes everywhere.

I think most transfer students just care about how many more GEs they’ll have to do.

6th College has the least GE’s followed by Muir. If anyone is interested to switch to 6th, I would consider it if you are from muir or marshall.

My D is in Warren and she was required to take 3 GE’s. One is a writing class and the other two are upper division classes outside the area of her major concentration. She is still able to have a minor in business in addition to her major and will graduate on time in 2 years (6 quarters).

@mminyy Hi! My BF called because he was considering that and they told him you have to wait a quarter before changing even if its in the same department.

Have you taken Calc 3 yet?? I’m not sure if I should take it over summer or not.

@aedie1 Hi! I am got in as a management science major, it is in the econ dep. I am debating UCSD’s program vs. Haas. Do you have any more info on UCSD’s econ department??

@missnewbooty95 UCSD’s Econ department is more math-heavy and research-oriented than most programs. The Management Science major is even more so, despite it sounding like a regular business major. I’m not sure how it compares to Haas, though

@DoctorP haas looks like it’s a program that just goes over a lot of different parts of business and not indepth at all. There are no series I would have to take, where at UCSD I would have to take 3 micro classes. Most of the class descriptions say " introductory" at Haas. That is what is making me think that I might learn more about business and economics form UCSD, even though they do not even have an undergrad business major. Is that crazy for me to think?? I am confused why haas is ranked so high?? I love San Diego but I would give living in la jolla up if it meant I would be receiving a better education from Haas. What do you all think! Thanks!!

@missnewbooty95 - in addition to your major you can minor in business at UCSD. The UCSD undergraduate business classes are taught by the MBA professors. What is it you would like to do after graduating? Think about how both programs you are comparing help you to prepare for that.

are any of you guys planning to join greek life?

Would anyone consider switching colleges? I have been placed in Revelle.

I plan on commuting as well. I’m looking at the map and don’t see a regents parking lot. Can you tell me where it is? And do you know how often the shuttles do their routes?

@UCItransfer23 I’m interested but I hear they can be expensive…

I’m surprised no one has posted about transfer triton day. Anyone else go??

I went. I had fun but there were just so many events going on, I couldn’t go to all the ones I wanted. There were a lot of booths for majors and school organizations telling you about what opportunities there are. Tours of the village where you got to see in a couple apartments & the rec/study rooms. Tours of your college and advisors told you what their GEs were.

Transfer day was unbelievable. I was very impressed with the effort they put in to really make a genuine sales pitch. It was awesome to be able to sit down with academic advisors and financial aid counselors so easily and quickly. The presentations from the faculty were amazingly thorough and full of useful info.

I was very much disappointed at the prospect of going to UCSD this fall, but after Triton day, I would not be all that disappointed if USC denied me. The financial aid people even worked with me and found a way to give me a free ride even though I filed my FAFSA 7 weeks past the deadline and made a lot of money last year. The opportunities are abundant, and anyone who is motivated and goes to UCSD has a very bright future.

TLDR: I was blown away. Well worth the time
