UCSD Fall 2017 Transfer Thread

@mattkarzi i would think you would be able to contact someone. I have the email address of someone in transfer admissions. Send me a private message and Ill give you the email address.

@mattkarzi If your major is listed here https://admissions.ucsd.edu/transfers/prep-programs/transfer-major-preparation.html and that math class is listed, you have to take it. These are the classes used to admit you, as in you have to have these finished by Spring 2017. If it’s not listed, it’s fine to take it over the summer or at UCSD if you prefer. Although it’s probably better to call them on that to clarify.
I also had a problem of not being able to reach their admissions, I don’t know if it was just the connection but upon pressing the number required to reach admissions, it says the call can’t be transferred or something. This happened 3 times so on my 4th time, I was tired of hearing the menu and clicked the number for admissions before the menu finished or some time before then and the call rang through so I was able to talk to them.

I’m not too familiar with college confidential, could you please DM me?

@doihaveashot2016 i certainly do agree with that. They are on a 2bn campaign. I feel UCSD is trying to elevate its profile. All things considered, it probably is the hidden gem of the UC system. I am proud to have been admitted.

Hi @mattkarzi, Shirley Balbin-Stacher is in charge of coursework evaluation in the Admissions Office and may be able to answer questions regarding the coursework requirements if you email her at the address here admissions.ucsd.edu/contact/meet-the-staff.html

Keep calm and courteous

I am too  Thanks! @ald6191

@itsromeosuckaa how are you gonna handle the appeal? I was thinking of talking to a counselor at my cc to see if they could give me pointers as to what to write in the appeal petition. I also got accepted at UCI, but UCSD was my first choice.

@sonali1997

Essays: I talked about mental health issues I’ve faced that I know were the reason for the decline in my grades.

I was waitlisted BTW

I started the SIR process but didn’t accept the admission offer. Now, I am not given the option to deny the offer. Does this mean I can’t deny the offer and thus am committed to UCSD?
Any help would greatly appreciated.

@ohm888 can you post a link to that part about waitlists and how the longer they hold out the greater guarantee they have of joining it?

@DonaldDuck12 It actually sounds like you did submit the SIR. Otherwise, it would still be the “Congratulations/Welcome to UC San Diego” banner when you log into the portal. If you hit submit when you hit the link for the SIR, and you’re eligible for a waiver, then odds are that you did submit your SIR to SD. If you want to decline the offer, you have to e-mail them (SIRDecline@ad.ucsd.edu, subject: “SIR decline from MyApplication”) and let them know you’re turning down the admissions offer.

Not sure if that’s what you’re looking for. Starting/submitting the SIR is acceptance of the admissions offer, I’m going to guess.

@thinkweism Thank you! Your post was helpful.
I was going to email them tomorrow morning but I just wanted to check with with someone before emailing someone.

@DonaldDuck12 Sure! I’m assuming you’re trying to SIR to UCLA so definitely make sure you decline via the e-mail to UCSD if that’s the case. If your portal says “Congratulations _____, you’re a Triton!” at the top, with a long checklist of material required… then you did SIR. Make sure you shoot them an e-mail and let them know. You don’t want to accidentally SIR to both schools and receive a letter from both, asking you to clarify which you will and will not attend.

@thinkweism Yeah, did you apply to UCLA, if you don’t mind me asking?
That would be awkward but would make an interesting romantic comedy where the love interests are schools and not people. But anyways, again, thank you.

@DonaldDuck12 I did not apply to UCLA! I was tempted but I decided it wasn’t worth the application fee. However, I’m vying for UCLA as a prospect for grad school (they have the best theater/costuming department, hands down).

Haha no problem. Good luck and congrats on getting in! Seems like it was a tough year to be a UCLA transfer hopeful.

@thinkweism Oh cool! I’m assuming you’re a theater major, that’s interesting. What made led you that major?

Thank you! The wait was unbearable. It sure seems like it; a lot of good students were denied admission.

@ald6191 I don’t think I’ll be available on Transfer Triton day, but I wish I could attend tho! I’ll probably schedule a regular campus tour there sometime next month. I got rejected from UCLA today lol. So one less school to worry about. now I can focus on transferring to UCSD, UCI, or UCR. I need to do more research between the Art major at UCI vs Visual Arts - Media at UCSD. And congrats on getting into UCSD and sixth college as well! Do you know anything about the housing? I might have to live on campus there if I decide to go to ucsd.

i started the checklist, so the picture of the triton went away, but i haven’t SIR’d yet… or have i?? i finished the first 2 steps. i want the triton pic back though :frowning:

Hey everyone, question before I call admissions about my rejection. Do you need to have all general Eds done to get in?
