UCSD Fall 2017 Transfer Thread

@ohm888 i didn’t mean to grill you , but i personally wanted to do some further reading in the topic. so i thought perhaps you had some articles or sources where i could read up on it (i dont doubt the validity, though saying 100% for anything does give reason to question).

as for the quote you just stated, there is nothing in there that mentions “length of time on the waitlist” and the correlation between saying yes once they’re taken off it.

if this was your source for that statement, then i think you misinterpreted the article and shouldn’t be stating things like that as if they were facts because there is no mention on that correlation here.

again, i don’t mean to grill you, i personally just wanted to do further reading for my own benefit since im on a waitlist for another school. no need to take offense.

@Princetonian9 You do it through your admissions portal. Long story short, when I submitted my supplemental application, I stated that I was missing a certain pre-requisite because I didn’t’get into the class. However, I got into the class last minute at my CC so I finished most of my pre-reqs. Also, I stated that I listed the wrong specialization for my major, which ultimately changes the number of pre-reqs I needed slightly. I’m hoping it’s overturned, but won’t be shocked if not. Appeals are rarely granted!

@Eunie314 Through your admissions portal!

@otoribashi if you didn’t mean to grill me that’s fine. You can take my comments however you wish. However i have read in more than one place that the longer one holds out on a waitlist, the almost definite certainty they will take the bait. I said almost 100% and it’s a way to manipulate yield. You can disagree, I don’t really care, because common sense should indicate a waitlist is a viable way to gauge an applicant’s interest. Of course, an institution would vehemently deny ever using a waitlist for yield purposes.

And I didn’t say the longer you hold out means you’re going to get in. There are just so many spaces. I said the long timers that get offered admittance are almost 100% likely to enroll. Ok, to be fair, let’s say 90%+.

I hope someone can answer my questions…
I’m admitted as a communication major, but I’m really interested in double major Psychology as well.
Is that possible? Is Psychology in UCSD a capped major?
Do I have to finish every lower-division courses in the first quarter to successfully declare?

I’m unable to get a tax transcript for financial aid by May 1st. Does anyone know if you for sure won’t be considered for the UCSD Grant, university loans, etc. after this day?
Is it maybe pointless to turn in anything after this day?

Hey everyone, I’m new here and don’t quite understand how this works here on the forum. I would like to start a thread for UCSD Transfer Waitlist 2017 applicants; that way we can all be in the same group. I’m going to see if I can figure it out. If not, maybe someone else could get it started.

@astrophilia Which forms are they requiring you to send in? If they’re requesting yours or your parents tax paperwork, you should be able to go onto the IRS website and nab them online. You’ll need the account # or credit card associated with that line of credit, mortage, home equity, line of credit, car loan, or something that can be used to check through the IRS website to confirm its you. If you cannot get it online, you can request it to be sent to you by mail.

After you do this, e-mail the financial aid office at UCSD ASAP. Ask them for an extension for the paperwork since it will take 5-10 working days (two weeks) for them to send you the paperwork from the IRS. I believe a few students went through this process. Be sure to ask for an extension because we did get caught real quick by that May 1st deadline!

If its the Non-Filing Verification form (4506-T), it should have already been removed from your financial aid checklist since they don’t require it for this school year.

@thinkweism Thanks for the help! I’m filing as independent and unfortunately don’t have a credit card to finish the verification process.
I need to get the non filing verification form for 2015 for some reason :\
I e-mailed UCSD financial aid, hopefully they can get back soon!
Thanks again

@astrophilia You actually should be fine since you’re filing as an independent. You might want to check your financial aid checklist through the separate tab and see if it’s already marked off. I’m surprised you didn’t get an e-mail about them not needing the non-filing verification form since they updated it for this school year to no longer being required.

I’ve started the 2017 wait-list thread if anybody is interested. Here is the link: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1988139-ucsd-transfer-waitlist-thread-2017-p1.html?new=1

@astrophilia I called Financial Aid office , because I couldn’t make a IRS account to access the transcript ( I placed a mail order as well Sunday April 23) and asked them about the deadline and they apologized for the confusion because Transfers actually have until June 1 to submit that stuff according to the guy on the phone ( I pressed the option to speak with a financial Aid counselor). But anyways I ended up getting my tax return transcript in the mail today so it did take 5 days!

Thank you @thinkweism and @wy1220!
I also remember seeing that June 1st date then freaked out when I saw May 1st everywhere today! I’m not even sure if I want to go there yet! Hopefully they tell me the same thing though.

Thanks for the help!

I got in for Econ, but am going to wait to reapply next year because I don’t want to re-do the calculus series since I only have up to calculus 2 done. Since I got in before I should get in again, right?

UCSD rejected me but Cal accepted me. HEHE

@astrophilia They should give you a similar response! A few other SD applicants got the e-mail about not requiring the form. I actually spoke with Renee at the financial aid office (one of the administration analysts who goes through the paperwork) and she personally took it off of my checklist.

Maybe you didn’t get it because you haven’t sent your SIR? If you did, not sure why you didn’t get it. Hope they get back to you ASAP either way!

If only it wasn’t pretty much impossible to switch to CS major at UCSD, I would love to go to UCSD…UCSD is the only UC that accepted me, but for my alternate major, didn’t actually expect to be accepted with for my alternate major. Rejected from UCI, UCSC, UCD, UCB, Cal poly, SJSU. Only accepted to UCSD and SFSU, but actually got into CS for SFSU. Not sure what I’m going to do…

@astrophilia I am in the same situation as you! I just sent them an email and hope to hear from them soon. I hope the deadline really is June 1st and not May. :frowning:

@beangel It seems like we should be fine, I’m hoping. It would make sense for it to be June though because the deadline to SIR is June 1st, and not all school’s have finished releasing decisions.

On the other hand, I’m getting impatient waiting for the acceptance packet! Haha. It’s been a week now :frowning: Has anyone recieved theres?
