UCSD Fall 2017 Transfer Thread

For the future transfers!

Accepted
Major: urban studies and planning
GPA: 3.87
TAG: Davis
ECs: lots of volunteering
personal statements: not very good
Accepted: UCSD, Berkeley (society and environment), Davis (community and regional development)
Rejected: none

Good luck and congratulations to all!

Accepted: UCSD, UCSC, UCSB, UCI, UCD

Unfortunately, I was accepted to UCSD under my alternate major. Does anyone know how difficult it is to switch majors (to Mathematics - Probability and Statistics) once enrolled? I have two more prereqs to finish and then completely done.

Accepted last week for my alt Major: Literature/Writing. Just SIR’d today.
Was hoping for CS, and I know it’s extremely difficult to switch into once there, but I think I’m going to give it a shot because I was rejected from everywhere else (appealing to UCR because my TAG seemed in good standing). If none of that works out, I am happy with my alt major and plus there is always grad school for CS.
College: John Muir (my 1st choice

So I just received my financial aid estimate and it’s pretty solid. However, they’re asking for tax transcripts that are due May 1st. (monday). I hate how they gave me little time to get all the paperwork. Either way, I have the tax transcripts since I also needed them for UCR earlier. Can I just take a pic of them and send them via email? UCR said it was okay so I don’t know why UCSD should have a problem with it.

I was accepted to UCSD on April 21. My stats are:
Major: Physiology and Neuroscience
GPA: 3.9
Major GPA: 4.0
TAG: None
IGETC: Complete
EC: 140 hours in hospital, dog shelter, tutoring
Applied: UCSB, UCSD, UCI, UCD, UCLA
Accepted: UCSB, UCSD
Rejected: UCI, UCD, UCLA

I have a 4.0 in college. My only C was as a high school student going to a community college after school because my school did not offer AP courses. Art history class…horrible teacher and it did not help that I have no skill for art. Besides that, I finished all pre-reqs upon applying. I’m very surprised and confused I got rejected by UCD and UCI. For UCLA I know a 3.6 GPA Neuroscience major who got in (face palm). It was kind of a punch to the stomach getting rejected by higher tier UC’s (and is messing with my confidence for future applications after undergrad).

Even so, UCSD was my first choice all along. Congratulations to all who got in. UCSD is amazing. See you soon!

Accepted on April 21st.

Major: urban studies and planning
GPA: 3.17
TAG: No tag
ECs: Admin assistant, Teacher Assistant, and AVID in High school. Very minimal EC’s in CCC.
personal statements: Personal statements were 9.5/10. English professor and transfer counselor read them and said that they were really good and meaningful. I talked about my struggles during the first year of CCC, and what i had to do in order to improve my grades.
Accepted: UCSD,UCI,UCD,UCR,SDSU,CalPoly,CSUF
Rejected: CSULB

After i graduated high school i took a year off. When i went back to CCC, i failed most of my classes the first year. After that i went on a upward trend on getting A’s and B’s in my classes. If you can show them that you’re a comeback student, more than likely they’ll give you a chance!

^ Username checks out.

Congratulations though

for those that said they have to turn in tax transcripts by May 1st… where did it say that? is that for everyone or just for your individual case? i didn’t see anything about sending in additional materials… or well i think i did see the thing about “turn stuff in by may 1st” but it didn’t tell me i had anything missing (i submitted FAFSA on time already)

also i have yet to SIR because im waiting until i attend triton and bruin day (even though i got waitlisted at UCLA… :(( )

i also got into berkeley but i don’t really want to go there

@otoribashi it tells you when you check your financial aid estimate!

Well I’ll be attending UCSC for sure! Keeping my fingers crossed for you all!

That’s awesome, congratulations @BoredEngineer! The campus is beautiful

@astrophilia

I agree! Tbh I was hurt by being rejected by Berkeley but I’m finally going to get to go a real university now. I’ve waited for this for years! And I’m grateful I’ll be going for free.

@bmora101 yeah i checked my estimate but it doesn’t tell me to submit anything…

@wy1220 is that true for the june 1st deadline? I just received my transcripts in the mail yesterday and i’ll have to send them out tomorrow which is may 1st already and it def wont make it there that early lol

Hi guys, can someone please help me out??? So, long story short, Im an Econ Major that just got admitted to UCSD, but unfortunately I had to drop CALC B this semester, which is a major prep requirement. On the phone, they told me that they would have to revoke my admission unless I can finish calc b by the end of spring 2017. She said my only option is to take it over the summer and then do an appeal, by it is unlikely ill get in, and if I do this, and submit my intent to register, Ill be left with nothing if they revoke the application. So, is there anything that comes to mind in terms of what I’ll be able to do? Would I be able to find a self-paced calculus B course that would transfer to UCSD that I could take in the next 3-4 weeks? Is there ANYTHING AT ALL I can do? Anything would help, please and thank you!

Could you take the AP Calculus BC test in May? You would need to find a high school which would accommodate you. You would give the high school code or a home study code.
CLEP test results are accepted by some colleges. So sign up for that test if UCSan Diego accepts CLEP.
The other alternative is to contact UCSD math department and ask if they offer a test so you can test out of the class. Explain that you needed to drop the class but you believe you have mastered the material and then study like crazy. Good luck!

@suenos53 What is that test? Im transferring from a CC, that sounds like a test you take out of highschool. Maybe I am mistaken.

Yes, AP is supposed to be taken in high school. I studied on my own and contacted schools so I could take AP tests. I gave them the standard home study code.
CLEP tests are a bit easier and not all universities accept them but even if UCSD doesn’t, maybe if you do well on the CLEP, they would still let you in and then tell you to take the class for real with them.
Most universities allow you to test out of at least some classes. I am debating if i want to take Japanese or request the Japanese department for permission to be tested out of the first two quarters.
Hope one of these options work for you.

Does anyone know if there is any kind of financial aid for OOS or International students? It would be nice to get some kind of waiver since the tuition is ridiculously high. I heard that Cal and UCLA won’t grant OOS and International students anything, but not sure about SD :-??

@UCadmit23 I got mine in the mail recently as well. That is what the financial aid office told me when I called them last week. I was gonna wait till I actually decided on SIRing ( not sure yet) to send in the transcript since they told me the deadline is June 1 ( same as SIR and Housing App). I’m visiting during Transfer Triton Day ( although I’ve been to the campus before and have already taken tours, once from a friend I went down there to help her move out and then another time during the UC application workshop.
