UF Dorm Housing Rip-off

Here’s how UF fleeces potential students before they even get a chance to make an informed decision to attend the school. First, potential students are encouraged to pay the $25 residence hall application fee when they apply for acceptance. OK, $25 is not that bad but it smells like a rip-off having to pay this before knowing that you have been admitted. Next, after a student is admitted, they receive a message from UF stating that they must complete their housing contract by submitting a $175 advance housing fee by March 11. At this point UF has not sent the student their merit aid or need-based aid packages - they informed me that this information is not sent out until April. This information is crucial in deciding to attend UF or accept an offer from another college. When I called the UF housing office to discuss this, the person stated that they over admit the number of students and if I had a problem with this and do not choose to attend UF, it does not hurt them - it’s just part of their process. See ya UF.

If you change your mind, you’re out $100, it’s annoying but hardly the end of the world…

If you think that fee is crazy…wait to you see what these universities/colleges have planned…things like several hundred dollars for text books for one semester…Dorm rent that will be crazy high, mystery fee’s…it never ends. ~X(

Can I download PDF’s of everything and camp outside the Housing office? I feel like this is something someone should start doing.
