Ugg Boots

I was sitting at a cafe and saw atleast five girls in Ugg Boots. This is Texas and it’s not even fall yet, to be honest I always wonder why do people even like these odd looking shoes?

I don’t know. My daughter has the same pair since 8th grade and she is now in college. She says they are comfy and keep her warm in the winter.

I’m pretty sure Uggs aren’t the only boot like this, but they advertise to the masses, so they are a well-known brand. For me? They keep my feet warm in the most severe of cold weather (often I don’t even wear any socks with them), and if I have them on, and the temperatures rise, they don’t make my feet sweat. The pair I have are incredibly easy to slip on and are really light - things I love considering I have to walk my dog outside at least 2-3 times a day, no matter how cold it is.

So yea, it could still be warm out, and girls will wear them because they really aren’t making their feet hot due to the sheepskin. The ones I have don’t have the best traction in ice or snow, so if it’s really icy, or the sidewalks haven’t been shoveled yet, I have other boots I can put on. I do have a pair of their slippers, too - they are just the most comfortable I have found, and based on my experience with their other products, I knew they’d last forever. D also has one of their robes, and gave one to one of her best friends when she had a baby.

They may not be the most stylish, but their products are very reliable… and hold up very well in our experience.

I guess must be good for cold areas. Why don’t they make more girlish designs and add traction to take over winter market?

I didn’t know Uggs were still “in”. I don’t see them around my area in the northeast much anymore. They were popular here about 9 years ago for 2-3 years. My daughter and I never cared for them. Up here its more Bean boots and riding boots like Frye which is kind of funny because those were both styles worn in my high school days. Bean boots have been ubiquitous for at least 40 years so I think its funny that the kids think they are some new thing.

I guess Texans aren’t used to cold so at they get their warmest boots out as soon as temperature drops below 70.

When our family was visiting the Phoenix area in the middle of summer a few years ago to take care of some family business, we saw teenage girls wearing Uggs. It was 110 degrees that day. In that kind of weather, it’s clearly all about fashion, but the real Ugg brand DO wear well-my older D wears hers commuting by bus all winter and they still look great. I see them a lot around Seattle. Clearly plenty of kids think they ARE girly and cute as they are. Younger D has not seen them on her Nashville campus yet, but it was regularlay 95 degrees up until this week.

I like them, too, but agree about the traction. I thought my slippers got pretty grungy after a couple of years- which is to be expected. I think Uggs are well made and practical. I don’t like the look of them with shorts or short skirts, though.

I wear mine every morning in the winter for my daily walk on the beach. I’ve had my pair for 20 years and I finally got a small hole in the toe. Darn boots, falling apart on me

I love them for that purpose because they keep the sand off my feet and out of my house (I leave them in the garage) and they keep my feet nice and toasty. Wet sand doesn’t hurt them a bit. And the giant footprint makes it easier to walk on soft sand. They are the only shoes/ boots I have for beach walking that keep every bit of sand off my feet and legs.

They are so very comfy. I wish they were more in style; I’d wear them all the time.

Have not seen them in west Texas at Texas Tech yet. but I bet they will show up soon.

We’ve sat out at some pretty cold (freezing or below) football games for hours (including tailgating), where all I had on were my Uggs with no socks on my feet, and inevitably, my feet are always the one body part that don’t get cold.

They lost their popularity around here a while ago.

I never liked the look of them and refuse to own a pair for moral reasons. shrug

I don’t own a pair of them too. In Texas we do not really need them.

I think the boots are ugly but I love the slippers. I wear them out completely in two winters though.

I must have missed something. What is the moral problem with Uggs?

They are truly ugly and I was a hater until someone gifted me a pair 5 years ago. The ugly stupid boots are so comfy an WARM. Insanely warm and great for games, walks etc… in the late fall and winter. They are not great in snow (not really waterproof) and do skid a bit.

The are not the rage anymore in New England - but you do see all ages wearing them (including teens) when it practical to do so (really cold). “Fashion boots” (leather riding boots or low booties) and Bean boots from the 80s are now the ‘big thing’ for teens. Also, Hunter boots (overpriced rain boots).

I wore my Uggs to death. I loved them because they let your feet breathe-in warm weather they wick sweat away from your feet, and they NEVER get smelly because of the natural sheep’s wool and lanolin content in the boot’s lining. I always wore them barefoot, and my feet were so happy.

I had one of the original pairs made in Australia, and I just can’t buy them now that they’re made in China.

I didn’t wear them in the snow, though (in Atlanta it snows occasionally now). They don’t keep the damp out. They are excellent spring/early summer/fall/early winter boots here. They’ve lost their popularity, but in my opinion, I still love them for their utility.

I’ve had a pair for at least 10 years. Wear them all winter when I’m out walking the dogs. I’ve never had a pair of boots that kept my feet so warm. When I am going somewhere and don’t have to walk a lot outside, I have a pair of Blondo’s. Very stylish and warm with great traction, but don’t keep my feet warm like my Uggs.

Teen girls used to wear them as a fashion statement here but I haven’t seen that for a few years now.

I wear mine to and from my ski boots, but as a fashion statement it is over around here.

I wear them for warmth, too while walking the dog, football games, etc. They are also fairly lightweight compared to other brands that I have like LL Bean. I live in a cold climate so between my daughter and I we own Uggs, Sperry, Bean , Hunters and Sorrel. Uggs to me are easy on/off and no socks needed! When weather is a factor sometimes fashion goes out the window.
