UIC-GPPA.

I have received a second interview for GPPA medicine. :)

All, I’ve been to both interviews–
Got accepted to honors college, and GPPA interview was feb 16th. I received an invite to GPPA before being accepted to honors college. When I asked, I was told GPPA can invite for interviews as long as the honors college interview has been completed, but they don’t always wait for acceptance if they feel a candidate is strong enough. Interviews are in a sense rolling, they call in the strongest candidates first but no decisions are released until April second by email (or the Friday before if you check on UIC’s site).
My stats, if anyone cares to know:
4.5 weighted, 3.8ish unweighted,
36 act,
Captain science olympiad,
Secretary Spanish honor society,
300+ hours volunteer service

Don’t worry if you haven’t gotten a GPPA invite yet: there are 10 total days of interviews planned, and there may be more. About 5-8 people per day. Feel free to ask any questions and I’ll reply with answers

Received the GPPA medicine interview invite yesterday. Honors college acceptance e-mail had come a few days earlier. Had the honors college interview about 3 weeks back.

I am not sure in what order the GPPA medicine applications are reviewed, FIFO or LIFO or strongest first as someone suggested in this thread.

For those who are waiting for GPPA medicine invites, there is still a lot time left. About a month or so…

So…Good luck…

Cheers…

neuro13,

Congratulations on those awesome stats and thanks for clearing up all the misinformation and confusion that exists in this forum. Do you have any other significant ECs other than what you have listed? Were you involved in any arts? Would mind sharing your URM/ORM status? Did you apply to other combined programs?

My D received her gppa interview invitation yesterday even though her Honor’s interview was today. They said this happens when they know the honor’s interview date has been confirmed and is going to happen.

I specifically asked and was told that there is absolutely on correlation between strength of candidate and time of interview. There is still time (until mid March I think) that people will be notified of interviews.

Her Honor’s interview by the way was somewhat difficult compared to others. Most students said that it was very easy and laid back and they talked about their EC’s etc. My D was not asked a single question on her EC’s but was asked several challenging philosophical questions.

She felt a little jipped but at the same time felt that it was preparing her better for those challenging interviews that are inevitable in her future. She said she would prefer a difficult interview instead of one that seems easy and misleads you into thinking all is ok.

Not sure what the difficult interview is supposed to mean but there were more than 8 different people doing the interview so how they standardize that is beyond me.

I talked to a current GPPA med student. His understanding was that primary criteria for invites are academic scores such as ACT/SAT/GPA. A minimum EC activity is needed and then comes the essays.

Cheers…

mrjohnsmith–

EC: as far as art goes, 2 years school band, multiple years private instruction for flute/piano out of school. otherwise, limited participation on debate team, medical professional club, and student council without any sort of leadership position.

USA considers me white, which helps my case until they realize i’m middle eastern

Was considering applying to PLME (Brown) but decided against it :)

So… basically what I’m gathering through all of this is that everything is still up in the air? Congrats to those that already got the second interview! That’s exciting.

When’s the last day they will be sending out interview invites?

All interviews must be completed before March 18, so I am guessing all invites will go out by March 12, unless they decide to add additional interview dates.

Going in for the interview in a couple of hours. I will let you know how the interviews are when I’m back. Im curious if they are like the UMKC interviews from last week.

i talked to ms. vople today and she said the last date for interview notification is the second week of March, so we still have time! Good luck to everyone waiting :)

I had a lot of fun in the interview with chambers. It was by far the MOST atypical interview I have ever had. There was not a single “typical” med interview question posed. The interviews are not very strict time wise either. My interview lasted close to an hour. The essay was also pretty straight forward. As they say, there is no right or wrong answer. It was a thought provoking prompt though.

Good luck to everyone else!
Now its time to wait until April 2 :D

dreth7,
For the second interview, do you need write an essay there just like the first interview?

CollegePal,

Can you post your stats? Thanks

Yes, it was a simple but very though provoking prompt. The essay is more a formality though. It is only weighed in if either you wrote an amazing response or a very poor one. It is also viewed in borderline applicants.

ptao2002,
Here are the stats:ACT 35, GPA 4(UW) and 5.0x(W). 7 APs thru junior and 6 currently…

Good luck…

Cheers…

This is probably a stupid question, but I’m guessing applying now for the GPPA / Honors College is impossible at this point even if you were accepted as an undergraduate freshman?

It’s always good to ask questions.

It is too late though, applications were due Dec.1 I think.

Congratulations on your acceptance.

So, is there some kind of dress code for the interviews (esp. the GPPA Med interview) ?
Should I go with leather bombers and dark jeans or would a blazer and dress pants/slacks be better ?

flash…,
Did you get a GPPA med interview? If you did, the the email confirmation tells you how to dress.
