I am admitted to university of Washington engineering undeclared (40K total cost) and UIUC EE (63K total cost), freshman 2024 living on the west coast. Looking for any insights between the two programs. Is it worth the out of state tuition to go UIUC?
Any experience on how competitive it is at UW to get into the major of your choice (ECE, Aerospace, mechanical engineering) after first year?
And how hard it is transferring from EE to CE at UIUC?
For Washington, Placement into a major | UW College of Engineering does not seem to indicate how competitive each major is.

Changing Majors | Undergraduate Academic Advising | UIUC indicates that changing to a different engineering major at UIUC is also competitive.

Historical placement data for UW ENGRUD is listed here: Placement data | UW College of Engineering
ECE seems to have a large capacity, with more students being placed into this major than the number of students who requested it as their first choice. So there should be a good chance of getting this major, if desired.
MechE appears to be slightly more competitive, and Aero & Astro appears to be the most competitive, judging from placement data.
